Effortless Swimming

Күн бұрын

We're looking at John, who's a triathlete in the video. He's swimming around a 1:40 to 1:45 per 100 meters. And he said he can hold this for about 1500 meters. Now, as I've looked through the video, he's doing a lot really well but there are specific areas where he can make improvements to enhance his speed. Find out more in this video.

That is eactly my case: 1:40-1:45/100 with a very similar stroke. So grateful for this analysis, Brenton!

Excellent break down video, Branton! Thanks, I will try to apply some of these details in my today's session! 👍 BTW the guy has an excellent body position, he just flies through the water 👍😲 Wish I could do it like this too 😞

John could be me, same pace, same problems in my stroke. Thanks for the video, very helpful.

Good analysis. What caught my eye is a learned 'overreach' in his setup. I'd suggest to him to focus less on the lenght in the setup as squeezing out the the last 5 cm just forces his arms out of wack. He wants to stretch out for the catch and overdoes that, resulting in the upwards paddle/hand position. If you have great shoulder mobility the extended reach is a good thing. His is right shoulder seems a bit tight though. :)

Hi, this is really helpful re technique. Do you have any ‘breathing’ tips please, as this is effecting my freestyle progress. 😏

Awesame video. I am wondering is there any difference if you keep the shoulders up/down, front/back (reference to standing position) in different phases of stroke?

Excellent question. I am also wondering how much shoulder rotation plays a part in the efficiency of this person's stroke and if swimmers have a drill for this (to support the correct elbow position and arm angle in the catch)

Does anybody happen to know any videos where the shoulder position is discussed. I went to pool and it feels that if I move my shoulders back, (referring to standing position) I am able to get the forearm way more vertical. But I am absolutely not sure if this is necessary thing to do or not. Also looking at some videos it seems that people tend to take their shoulder way up (like towards the ear) in the beginning of the stroke (when forming catch). I am probably just confusing myself, thinking about smth. that is maybe not so important :)

When people say 1.45 per hundred meters in a pool, how does this normally translate to open water?

I assume that he wears down quite a lot by the end of the 1500m, so he drops to a 1:40-ish.
