Why the hell play cleric on 1st turn!? U would not have anything to heal up to turn 3, and opponent could kill it for free...

People tend to see that 1/3 as a problem and like to get rid of it, making it a first turn for many. Also, if you can play a 1/3 or 2/1 for 1 mana why not? More likely than not it's a free attack and free time as others will try to build up a hand and pass on turn 1 & 2.
