That Louie magazine photo of the former students of the school makes me sad, and I never even met those kids. They looked super cool back in 2008. Life goes by so darn fast. I wonder if they’ve seen this video.

I wimped out before getting to the top of the rope in 8th Grade. 70's on another East Coast Island. I think it had something to do with the kid that went ahead of me. He fell from near the top, hit his head, and left unconscious by Ambulance. So cool that by your videos you're preserving many things that may never be seen again and you take us along for the ride. Keep rockin it you two!!!

I love all the wood in this one, parts of it remind me of my old school. We had climbing ropes...I don’t think poles were used for that purpose when I was in school...they could double as dance poles in a pinch. Our auditorium was a lot like this one as well. The library was stunning, and I want those bookshelves. Thanks for sharing this one...you always bring me a smile.🖤🇨🇦

Tamarra James My Elementary School had only two floors, The Basement and the second floor, it had two playgrounds. The basement had the the younger kids, and multiple purpose room, and the top floor had the older kids, a library and artroom. My Elementary School has been remodeled a couple times, they put tinted windows in, and a bunch of other things done.

Donna Dreyer Sounds a fair bit like my High School, although we had three floors plus the basement. The junior High was across the track field from us. We got a single story addition the year I graduated, and they gave it to the sciences while leaving the art department stuck in the basement. Cheers.🖤🇨🇦

When you do older schools you need to get into the projection booths in the auditoriums. I was able to get into two older schools and both hadn't opened those booths in decades. The old things we found were very interesting. From student diaries to old reel to reel film. I would guess when equipment broke down they just shut and locked the doors to the booths and used cheaper and newer equipment that didn't need the booths ability to change from one reel to another seemlessly.

This was probably abandoned not in the fifties, but maybe later on in the eighties or nineties. The basketball three point line wasn't invented until 1979. Still this school could very well be from the fifties and is an amazing find!

I think it's older than the 1950s. That Art Deco autororium and that one old style Exit sign painted on the wall, makes me think 1930s, maybe 40s at the latest. The 50s would have been more mid-century modern. But it was remodeled a lot right up to the end.

I just realized that I've never seen a shot of a cornerstone or builder's plaque in any exploration---that is, none that I remember. I was really feeling nostalgic as you toured this place, as it reminds me so much of the 9th and 10th grades building of the school I attended. The wall tile is the same color, ours had glass block and Art Deco treatment at the 3-story curved glass block windows at the street end of the building, with the same sort of aluminum or stainless steel railings everywhere! It sat between the older Junior High building, which was a lot "woodier," as was the 11th-12th Grade building on the other side of it. (actually, there was a 19th century grade school building that took some overflow until our new, modern campus for Juniors and Seniors could be completed. The marble stairs were worn _sway-backed_ from all the decades of students' feet!) Our 60th Class reunion is coming up this summer, but I haven't been to one since our 20th, so... Amazing exploration, guys!

Great video! Love how intact the place is and all of the unique touches! The elementary school I went to was pretty old (part of it was built in the 1800s and the rest in the early 1900s) and had some really nice features. I loved it. Unfortunately it was deemed too small and repurposed into apartments. I'm glad that it's still standing, but also sad that all of the interesting things that made it special were torn out.

All the schools I went to, Elementary, Middle School and my High School had rope climbing. I could never get to the top being a scrawny girl who was short and skinny for her age and also being afraid of heights. I graduated in 2006 so, maybe schools these days don't do the rope climbing anymore or maybe it varies from state to state but, mine sure did.

This is an amazing find. I love the Art Deco feel. It’s sad that they couldn’t have done something with it. There’s a town in Oregon that built a new junior high back in the late 70’s because the town outgrew the old one. By old we’re talking early 1900’s. But they used the old building as a part of the school district. It’s still there today and just an amazing old building.

The results of ADA, If you notice there are no ramps for wheelchair access. they probably had 1 student in a wheel chair that had to be accommodated after their parents sued the school. Instead of spending $5m to remodel this old 1950 school they abandoned it and built a new one someplace else. even to use it for some other business would require the investment to meet ADA requirements. Thus we get to watch them rot away.

Yea Mac, Nice climb man! We had climbing ropes but I couldn't climb them like Mac! Love the production, music and adventure as always. Great explore with non vandalism ethics. I like the cool square glass and industrial light switches.
