I just got into rock hunting and have found a bunch of different agates, petrified wood, jasper and other stuff. I am in Billings and am so glad that I found your channel. I have learned a bunch from just watching you. I bought a rock tumbler and hope to buy a saw soon. I am hoping to find some good spots to find more treasures. Love the videos.

This is the 6 or 7th video of yours I've watched in the last few days. I'm brand new to rockhounding and even as I branch out and find other content creators I will keep coming back here bc in the first video I saw you saved some lil fishies and in this one you picked up trash.😁👍 Love your comment about helping out the world when u can by bringing along a bag to pick up trash you find as you hound. Just yesterday I was out in the stormy weather on my beach on the Oregon coast (which I'm new to- hence my new hobby!) and I found my first big red starfish stranded on the sand as the tide went out... So after some quick Googling and determining that he/she was most likely very much alive, I returned it home... and then did the same with it's 3 friends I found over the next 2 hours, along with some baby sea snails and an sea isopod stuck upside down. Returning these guys to their ocean home was one of the highlights of my excursion, that and the gorgeous lil carnelian agates I collected. It makes me feel good to help Nature out in return for the incredible treasures I receive, and it's one hell of a deal in my favor. Thanks for another fun video, glad Kip had so much fun with his buddy, that was super cute to watch, and yes I'll check out your colleague's channel too, as I have already done with Montana Rock Mom as per your suggestion!

Hey Katy, think I figured out what you were talking about with the opal/ silica content. Very interesting stuff. When I wrote to you about calcium on the rocks here, often rocks around me have little pebbles attached. The are attached with calcium :) So two different white stuff on the rocks. Thanks so much for pointing me in the direction of the common opal, have been learning more about it. Alex, could that blue you have in the pet wood be opal? Some that I have found with it within my rocks has little baby spark micro minerals in them, not flashes of color but some sparks of color. To see the sparks, have to use a loupe. Others shine up very pearly, here, shiny without any work from me. Just a thought. Man that piece is stunning!!

I'm sure u 2 appreciate what you have there. I'm sure not finding anything like that in Phoenix. But I'm sure its geographical. The difference between looking in the city for rocks and being near a river. Big difference. But I'm thankful for the pieces that I do find. But I really have to have an Eagle eye

Katy needs hip waders or zip -off pants so she can stay dry while crossing lol. I started out on Michegan Rocks channel and he mentioned Katydid's channel and that lead me to your channel and the good stuff keeps going on and on :) ps love the rocks and would go gaga for some smaller pieces of that driftwood too :)

Haha! Katy does indeed need waders, but she survived the crossing. Thanks for checking out my channel.

i think that piece of wood you thought may be "palm or something" was petrified root.

At 3:30 that definitely isn’t palm wood. Palm trees don’t have growth rings. Beautiful nonetheless!

Agate Angler Sorry, I’m not great with species ID of petrified wood, it can be sort of tough to figure out. Usually you need a great microscope or even thin sections of the rock to figure it out! Palm wood is pretty easy, it has speckles instead of rings! I’ve got a ton of it near where I live, let me know if you want a piece.

You sure found some beautiful pieces! Oh, I want to go there myself and walk on the gravel bars! It is a long way from Wisconsin though, too far for a day trip. It is probably almost an 18 hour drive from here.

Location is everything. When I go hounding, I'd like to find something other than agate and chalcedony, but fire agate is always welcome 😁. Thanks for the tour. P.S. could that blue be opalized pet wood?
@AgateAngler
@AgateAngler 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I don't really know how to differentiate between opal and chalcedony. I was up in the deserts last weekend and found what I think might be opal. That video will be out on Monday. Maybe you can help me out with ID if you watch it.

@@AgateAngler Opal and chalcedony are totally different. You're more likely to find common opal than precious, but the US has some, mainly in Utah I think. Opal is a silicate, chalcedony is a microcrystalline type of quartz occurring in several different forms, including onyx, agate, and jasper. Google before you go. There's agatized pet wood and opalized. I asked because of the blue. I envy you guys, I cannot hound anymore cos there's no one to go with and you never go into the deserts or mountains here alone. Ever.
