My Aikido is Nihon goshin Aikido we don't do any of these flashy things and Flowery looking some of it is BS it's more like they're showing off their flipping more than self-defense
@regularnimnule97153 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. Much as this is beautiful to look at it needs and uke who knows exactly what he/she must do. There are a few obvious moments where uke falls according to pattern and not to applied technique.
@junglejim34333 жыл бұрын
I would agree that much of this is a "dance". However, without a skilled uke, many of these techniques would simply end in a tragic fall or a broken limb. There are some examples of the uke clearly standing passively or moving ahead of the technique. But if you've ever been on the receiving end of this skill level you might see that this man moves with a fluid power that really does work.

This is just a beautiful art form to look at. I took Aikido for a short while until an injury took me out of it. When my sensei a 5' female 4th dan at that time would put me into a lock, forget about trying to get out of it. This may not the most practical form of street self defense but it is definitely a beautiful and spiritual form of martial arts to practice.

Look at it in an other way: After many years at Judo and Jiu-jitsu, in my 60s, I decided to take Aikido because I liked the smooth movements. It turned out that I was a terrible Uke. It is a pleasure watching your aikido skills. I wonder what is your answer to that guy from the Martial Arts Journey channel. He is a former first dan aikido instructor insisting that aikido is useless in a real street fight.
@igordasilva16053 жыл бұрын
Came from his channel by the way. It amazes me how the majority of people in the comments here take this by a truth demonstration of something. In a real fight this would have none effectiveness. In what scenario an opponent would submissively be taken by the wrist (even walking towards any direction) to then perform a jump, I mean, be thrown? A 16yo girl with any resistance would ruin these "amazing techniques".

@@igordasilva1605 As with most people, Igor, you’re missing the concept of « demonstration ». Of course the opponent is settling himself up. Please try attacking someone of his caliber on the street. @daesungkim14782 жыл бұрын
@@igordasilva1605 I don't think you can resist. You will break your wrist or arm by resisting. It's literally a wrist lock. I think what you can do is not extend your arm and hold the master's wrist in a way that you are vulnerable to all kinds of aikido attacks.
@igordasilva16052 жыл бұрын
@@daesungkim1478 1- It's not an armlock, he couldn't brake your arm or wrist by simply twisting it. 2 - You are superestimating the chances of grabbing someone's arm and the person not pulling it back right away or/and respond with a punch to your face.

Hello Shirakawa Sensei, we have comments by the aikido haters and the aikido spirituality zealots. I like aikido and practiced - it's fun, educational and effective. Love your videos and commented in the past. I am SO curious to know your true thoughts about ki and the spirituality aspect of training. Respectfully, I do not believe in the magical powers of ki and I have a different source for "spirituality". I believe in timing, positioning, strength in technique, physics, and proper intent in the execution. One of your guest masters commented on the positioning of your sacrum and strength of your core and you took it as a great compliment. Please explain your honest thoughts on ki and what you really focus on in your training. It is a pleasure to be able to communicate with a true expert, Domo Arigato Gozaimasu, Shirakawa Sensei.
