We are part of one of those 1960's simple houses on a bay in Alabama. It has thankfully survived many hurricanes except for the boat dock. Earlier this year the family got together with hammers, nails, and a pump to sink pilings and rebuilt the boat dock one more time. Maybe it will last a little while.

Nice part of Florida, and a great host family. I've often wondered what insurance costs for such coastal residences, and is "Hurricane Insurance" available?
@pastormarkbrand3 жыл бұрын
Insurance costs can be very expensive. The main thing affecting rates is which flood zone the house sits in. The Army Corps od Engineers issues flood zone maps every few decades with many different zones, each reflecting a certain level of risk. That dramatically affects rates. Thankfully, our house is in a part of our lot that is in the “x” zone, which means we are basically nearly zero flood risk. Salt water backed up from the Bay and soaked the roots of most our pine trees during the hurricane, though, and killed them, exactly where the flood zone maps said it would. Here is a link to what those kind of flood risk maps look like: hazards-fema.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=8b0adb51996444d4879338b5529aa9cd
