May be totally wrong but i think the incredible power from the engine would snap the drive shafts, we're blessed with much better materials these days to improve the reliability of these magnificent machines.

I would be very surprised if this is full rpm (peak rpm 12,000)I know from riding high revving motorcycles - not 16 cylinders though LOL I would estimate this is a peak of 8000 RPM, which would make sense if you read about the power curve and when it kicks in 8000 and up is when it starts to go stupid ! LOL

@@malcolmwhite3567yeah, it was pretty tame at "normal engine" speeds. Like 300-ish horsepower at around 6000-7000 rpm. But supposedly peaked as high as 800-900 over 10000 rpm. At a time when 500-600 hp was almost unheard of (and remember, from just 1.5 liters displacement).

the only problem with it is for such a small (1.5) engine block it has a lot of rotating mass and energy being transferred all over the block. It puts immense stress on itself at full tilt which is likely what brings it such a poor reliability reputation.

I'm so glad I came across this. A while back when I caught wind some folks were going to build a new BRM V16 I was so excited. And to really see it on tracks now being given the full send literally brings tears to my eyes. What an incredible quality of sound that engine produces! Very rich, and the smoothness is astounding. Compared to the sound clip of Nick Mason's car, which seems a bit more rough (still eye-wateringly good), this engine is flawless.

So cool this car, I am just reading an old book Raymond Mays, fantastic reading, Raymond loved the Shelsley Walsh hill climb. I am at the ERA point in the book, He was big on super chargers and pushing the limits of cars. Raymond Mays and his team of Men did wonders. The supercharged BRM V16 is a beast.The efforts made in those early times was impressive to get an English racing car on the racing scene.

It arguably doesn't need an ECU as this is a modern perfect recreation of what was the 1950s BRM all built with modern metallurgy and knowhow. It's still an amazing thing. It blew people's hats off when it left the line...

This video only gives us the low to high midrange of the rpm band of this incredible engine/ car. When the engine really reaches the powerband, the note changes entirely. It really sings over 7000 rpm. The growl goes away and it turns to a howl as the horsepower jumps to double and the tires want to break loose. You only get a momentary taste of it at 0:43.
