This is a tutorial on how to install custom firmware on the Anbernic RG35xx Plus and RG35xx H what just maybe the best retro emulating handheld. This is macOS Tutorial and we will be flashing Batocera Lite / Koroki.

FYI it has come to my attention that NDS is having major issues with button mapping and if you are intending to use this device to emulate that console I would highly suggest you hold off for now. I'll keep you guys updated. Thanks ✌

I’ve followed this video and it’s gave my device a new lease of life so I thank you for that! I ended up actually loading on the brand new V40 which seems to be running Amazing it’s way better than the stock firmware. My only issue though is I’m now limited to gb, gbc, gba, psp and ds as I used the bios and roms from the sd card that came with my handheld! For some reason ps1 etc just doesn’t load I assume that’s a bio and rom issue and I have absolutely no clue how to get them! I know how to load them when I have them but I’m not sure where to get them from which is a massive shame!

May I just add a quick comment, this video has been a bit of a lifesaver. I recieved my RG35xx Plus a few days ago and after half an hour of playing around I turned it off, only to come back and it got stuck in the boot cycle. This whole weekend I've been looking into a new OS as its been advised to get a new SD and what was just me wanting to explore some old games had turned into a huge pain in the A***. I originally tried using Garlic not realising it wouldn't work on my device and my RG35XX Plus wouldn't boot. Nightmare! Anyway days of downloading different software etc I stumbled on this video and hey ho, I have a working device. No games yet but thats next! But what I would advise is that the disc image file for Batocera comes in a zip file and needs to be extracted with Unarchiver before it can be flashed with Balena Etcher. Otherwise it gets stuck trying to decompress! But thanks so much to the maker of this video who has now given light at the end of the tunnel for an entire weekend of torment! All I need now is to figure out about Roms and Bios and I should be good to go! THANK YOU!

Hey brother glad it helped. So I’m not the most familiar in Mac as I only got my Mac recently and am a long time windows user. So idk if I picked an option while setting up my Mac or if it’s a new feature on MacOs but I don’t have to decompress the file prior to using Balena Etcher. Etcher decompress’s the file for me. I am used to having to decompress prior but with this I hadn’t needed to. I am currently working on a video to help users with some tips and getting started in Batocera. @@2LoudTech I did try it first without unzipping and it got stuck decompressing so it was just a kinda stab in the dark to unzip it first and that allowed me. Maybe it’s a bit temperamental. I’m new to these handheld gaming devices so all of this is new to me. But your video at least got me to a place where I had a working device again! Just a quick one though, I noticed some emulators are missing such as PlayStation etc. Is there a way of adding those?

I had this exact problem after only an hour of use! I have no tech knowledge at all but followed this guide and now have a working system! I did infact download a newer version and it seems to be working perfectly. What I’ll say is I re used the bios and Roma from the original sd and for some reason I no longer have PlayStation 1 showing!? I also have noticed menu button doesn’t work so you have to rely on shortcuts to get out of games etc… I might be missing something as I couldn’t get into a menu in game to change settings etc?

I tried transferring the stock Sd roms and I deleted the roms is there way to get them back or did I f up 😅

First question are using stock sd cards? And just to be clear this is for the Plus and H models not the OG RG35xx.

Ok if you’re talking about my video, I have on the thumbnail, in the title and I said it multiple times in video that this was for the plus and H models. If not, I’m sorry you were missing lead. I can try to help you. What I would start with is removing the sd from RG then putting it into your computer, then download the latest version of Garlic Os. Make sure it’s for the RG35xx and NOT the Rg35xx Plus or H. It should be garlic 1.0 not 2.0. After you download garlic flash it to your sd card with Rufus. Eject sd card safely and put it back into your RG35xx and let it run its initial boot. From there you should be good to go. Hope this helps friend ✌️

If your using a stock sd card buy a reputable card from Sandisk or Samsung then flash new operating system image to it. ✌️

For some reason Balenaetcher keeps saying "flash failed", but I'm not sure why. Do I need to partition my microsd card first?

I was using the SD card reader that came with my device and turns it out it's just faulty. I switched to a quality reader and had no problems! Thank you for making this tutorial. Very helpful and easy to follow :)

Of course my friend. I actually recommend you to do so. The factory 64 sd card is trash. Save it just in case but I always recommend using a trusted brand sd.

Hey my friend no problem and I’m glad it helped you. I actually recorded the video with a bunch of tips and tricks for batocera but I have not had a chance to edit and upload it. Hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to do so this week. Plus I just seen on the GitHub for batocera that they have actually updated this cfw to the full Batocera build so it’s longer Batocera Lite. I will make an update video here shortly. As far as the stock Os I will try to push that one out as well just been swamped with a lot of projects. Thanks for your support and look out for new content regarding this device this week. ✌️
