Amazing job by all involved.being around helicopters all my life I could hear the changes in pitch of the blades they were working hard.the Chinook helicopter is an amazing machine.first used in 1961, to have them I the front line in 2019 is something unheard of besides the humble UH-1.but I take my hat off to that remarkable beast.just recently here in AUSTRALIA I saw a video of a Chinook picking up an old Caribou aircraft.that was amazing to watch as well.

Not really. The Chinook has power for days. It can actually climb at about 30knots straight up. They are a very stable long line aircraft which is why they use them for logging in Canada and the US Pacific North-West all very mountainous areas. Dbreeze986 Rodger That, thank you! Glad to hear they survived & lived to fight another day. During WW2, some of the fighter planes such as the P-51 Mustang that would support the ground troops by destroying enemy tanks & other equipment, were often referred to as “Angels Over Our Shoulders”, so the AH64’s along with the A10’s that carry out that same type of mission today are the modern day equivalent. Good Day to You!

Dbreeze986 Thanks for replying. Happy to hear that nothing is left behind for the enemy. Although what they could actually do with it, even if something was indeed left behind, was rather limited.

Just flew in one built in 1951! So yeah, built to last!

Lol. Ok. The first Chinook was built in 1961. And I doubt anyone on the planet is flying an "A" model.

According to the tail numbers, it was 1951. I was told so by an O-3 who was managing the troop queues. He could be mistaken, but who knows what tge ANG of GA is flying??

Was on a CS drop in 1970 near Nui Ba Den, Black Virgin Mountain. One pilot required to wear a gas mask. Hit rain and a fog bank. I was wired and sitting between pilots. Think one got vertigo as he broke out in profuse sweat! Dicey 10 minutes or so til we broke clear! Great aircraft.
