Cobalt Blue and Quinacridone Coral is a wonderful pairing. And Venetian Red paired with Ultramarine or Indanthrone Blue mixes muted grey purple and darker browns.

Perfect timing with this video Anna! I've been looking for a new painting, and I've been toying with the idea of purple/violet and yellow. After watching this I saw some coral red flowers and a cerulean blue bird that just begged to be put together on a page and painted. Here goes!

That’s so good to hear 😃 I don’t use enough cerulean blue because I am always reaching for Phthalo - I think I should try 💙 so many gorgeous combos that we need tackle! I am also low key obsessed with purple orange/coral sweet peas that I found while looking at the pink ones for the last painting , but don’t want to do another sweet pea for now so looking for a similar look but with roses or orchids maybe 😊💕

Blue and magenta is a colour pairing that I go for the most, though I do wish to do more artwork with other colours in the main role XD Being a Patreon of yours and all these KZbin videos have helped me a lot this past Spring. Just under a year ago I made a floral painting as a graduation present for my brother’s fiance. And it was a very fast slippery slope to go from painting characters and creatures only to mainly doing floral paintings. I do hope to now also start including non-floral elements into my paintings following your advice to see how I like that

Hello from Kyiv, Anna! I like a classic Ukrainian traditional combination: magenta - emerald green - warm yellow - black. The other one is emerald - warm pink - naple yellow - cobalt blue (A combination of "Kyiv in May"). The 3rd one is ultramarin- golden ochre - brown violet (Ukrainian summer in the South).

I enjoy using a mixed palette also and some combinations just grab me. Since my studio palette stays put I tried a couple of honey based pigments that I just can’t do without. They have been there for awhile but I didn’t think that anything could be brighter than DS quinacridone Rose. Well I was encouraged to try Sennelier’s Rose Madder Lake PV19. I compared them to each other and noticed that the DS version dulls down when drying and Sennelier’s version surprised me. To add a bit more of an effect I use pyrol orange. DaVinci brand is just as bright, it looks amazing. The other green that I really enjoy is lightfast and from M.Graham and it is sap green. It looks like an olive green but Hansa yellow is not there. It mixes nicely with any green and quin gold and the ochres just perk up with it. I didn’t believe it until I tried a small tube and was very happy that I did. I love bright birds, flowers and nature like you and enjoy your videos. Take care😊

Thank you for sharing these color combinations. Have you tried Nickel AZO YELLOW dropped into a wet wash of Q Coral or many other colors especially greens? I love the way the NAY pushes and blends. I love your work and vibrant colors used but I don’t see you using a lot of oranges. What are your favorite oranges?
@AnnaBucciarelli
@AnnaBucciarelli Жыл бұрын
Thank you Julie! 🧡 Oranges is such an interesting area i am still exploring, and I don’t think I’ve ever been asked 😊 so my go to for years had been Hansa Yellow Deep which to me reads as a light orange - more than enough intensity for most botanicals… and Quinacridone Burned orange which is suuuper intense but transparent, better for fall landscapes, fruits and veggies etc. Works amazing with Indigo! it literally looks “burned” or a little toasted 😊😊😊 I tried more typical hues like regular Winsor orange etc and they didn’t excite me. The 2 above remain my go to. Ps: I need to try this who yellow combo!!! I admit I haven’t done much exploration with nay but I have a sample sitting on my desk. Thank you for the nudge! 💕

I'm going to have to try Nickel Azo Yellow with Quin Coral! Sounds lovely! 😍 Quinacridone Burnt Orange is one of my favorites too! I like it with Indanthrone Blue, which is a great neutralizing pair with it. I haven't liked French Ultramarine, but bought Ultramarine Finest from Schmincke, which has been wonderful. Transparent Orange from Winsor and Newton is a nice neutralizing pair for it.

The burnt orange with the quin coral or PR209 is burnt sienna. The quin gold and nickel azo yellow are the burnt orange but the sienna part is the quin coral and quin coral is very beautiful. The Sennelier version of quin coral is a ringer also when comparing them side by side it is called quinacridone red. You know I used to always go with DS brand but the Sennelier version of PV19 Rose madder lake (quinacridone rose PV19) and this one just absolutely sing. I keep them as separate pigments because one can mix exactly what they want whether burnt orange, burnt sienna or just use the coral or quin red PR209. The nickel azo yellow is the other essential for burnt orange. They are beautiful.😊

My favorites might be counter intuitive for your style, but I love focusing on neutralizing pairs. Indanthrone Blue and Quinacridone Burnt Orange, Rich Green Gold and Dioxazine Violet, and Sanguine Red (Anthraquinoid Red is a good substitute for this shade, but the light fastness isn't as strong) and Phthalo Green BS. The first and last pairs are my favorites, while I'm still exploring the middle one. For portraits, Perylene Violet with Nickel Azo Yellow and Quinacridone Burnt Orange make for a lovely trio for darker skin tones. That trio was inspired by Michael Solovyev.

How to you keep all your colours so bright ? How to you keep your paintings so fresh and clean? My paintings no matter how hard I try gets a little bit dull.😢😢😢

If the paints look dull I would first look at changing your paper to bright white 100% cotton, and look for more pigmented paint brands like Daniel Smith , but paper is the most important consideration 😊 hope this helps! 💕

Your discussions of color are some of my favorite videos. I notice that you use round small palettes to hold your watercolors and that use small amounts of paints in them. Is this your normal way to organize and use your watercolors instead of one large palette filled with paint?
@AnnaBucciarelli
@AnnaBucciarelli Жыл бұрын
Thank you Linda! :) This is how i've been keeping my colors for the past 10 years - i squeeze a bit from the tube and it lasts an entire painting sometimes 2-3 before I need to add more. I occasionally use flat porcelain - mostly to make the tutorials more straightforward visually , but i do like these flower like palettes I get on Amazon the best:) The only issue is they can get a bit dusty depending on the season, and especially if you don't use a particular pigment for a long time {i am talking a few months}. I now see these same palettes sold with plastic see through lids and I think that just solves the problem. I never got into the large palettes where pigments are organized around the flat white space because I like to keep my colors organized in color families {red, blues etc} - this is probably not "typical" but it matches my work flow as I experiment using big color groups and like to dip into several colors within a group before I settle on one red or one blue for a particular painting. I hope this makes sense. Give it it a try maybe with your favourites and see if you like the way it works with your style / workflow. Have a great day!

Jo! ❤️ you must have your hands so so full - guessing you went back to work by now as I haven’t seen you on insta (although I’ve been absent from insta as well for most of the month because … almost burned out ahem) I don’t have all the answers - the struggle is real! Especially with kids, but I will say - above all else take care of yourself, don’t force anything especially if you are just transitioning back to work. It’s a huge change. Things will settle down eventually I promise! Some things that worked for me: I remember back in 2017 when I was going back to work after my 2nd, I had to take a few months off art. It’s normal. Don’t worry or rush yourself. I then started carrying around my sketchbook and just doodling here and there - not to produce anything necessarily but just to get some ideas out in a short period of time (lunch/ train commute/late at night) You are so immensely talented - you may just find the need to get some ideas on paper - when you have a moment and it might make all the difference. Later these ideas can become something bigger / something to watercolor. Copic markets / black ink Micron pens are easier to manage and carry around - that’s how I managed for almost a year before things were stable enough for me to set aside hours at a time to paint again. This is temporary. Enjoy the summer and your talent is not going away and you will be back delighting everyone with your beautiful work - it’s just a temporary transition phase 💕💕💕💕💕

@@AnnaBucciarelli Thank you Anna! You’re the only one who can always pull me out of this miserable helplessness. I’m back to work part time and still taking care of my kiddo. Sometimes I drive to the lab at 8pm 🫣 you’re right, I can still sneak in doodling and just wait out the hard time for now and wait until energy is back. I have this huge painting I haven’t touched since 2 months staring at me and guilt tripping me. But sketchbooks sounds like something more manageable at the moment. Sending hugs! 💙💛💙💛
