Thank you Mr. Aguila for recommending that base shoots be preserved because they yield the best cuttings. This is not scientific by any means, but (based on your recommendation) I allowed two similar plants in the same pot on several pots to sprout from the top on one plant and from the bottom on the other. To my surprise, some of the plants that sprouted from the bottom topped the trellis first. And, all that sprouted from the bottom yielded more vigorous shoots which appear to me to be healthier than those which sprouted from the tops. I've also found that after about four months the ones that sprouted from the bottom had caught up to those that sprouted from the tops. Stellar recommendation! A thought for you: If a main plant is damaged or not pleasing to the eye, just train a bottom shoot to replace it by allowing it to grow upwards alongside the parent; once it tops the trellis, you can cut the parent for cuttings, leaving the child to feed off of a fully developed root system, possibly with only a slight loss in the harvest for one year.

There was so much great information packed into this one video. I am a new grower of dragon fruit, and I took lots of notes. Btw, what was that Bud and Bloom fertilizer that Leonardo recommended? There are several from different companies when I looked it up on Amazon. Also, what does 4s 6s etc mean when you talk about dragon fruit types (maybe I heard it wrong) Thanks for an absolutely fabulous tour.

Eventually they cocoon the support and rot it, even with the pickets holding it out of the ground like that. Get some years out of it before they start collapsing though. Some of mine are 20-30 years old and I have a few collapse every spring in the winds. Not a big deal but I don’t tend to do them that way anymore. Nice seeing all the varieties I don’t have.

@@sifakuahuia8576 thanks for the reply, in my experience red flesh flower at a similar time to each other and white flesh at a slightly different time. Would u say purples flower with the reds rather that whites ? Any reason for recommending Vietnamese red ? I have another unnamed semi self fertile red that seems to pollinate well I like better as it’s got bigger fruit. Also do you know any purples that would pollinate purple haze well, like dark star ? It would be nice to keep the row all purple to help with sorting.
