Summer is coming in montreal, so my mini 2 will be flying much more often with my iPhone 7 Plus as the controller screen. I also have a 11 inch iPad pro 2020 and an m50 canon camera with a couple of lenses good for vlogging and low light talking head. Why am I telling you all that crap? Because my plan is to get the Tripltek 8 to use for everything, including phone. I am going to Stratford ontario in a few weeks to hang out with my 4 year old grandson and show him my mini 2. If I have the Tripltek 8, I will take it and leave my phone and iPad at home. What do you think of my Tripltek plan where it will replace everything else? Of course I will still use the other gear at home but only at home. Is it easy to switch from phone to tablet as your phone? Is it only a matter of switching the SIM card back and forth? One last, but interesting question that no one seems to know. When a drone cop checks the weight of your drone, does he/she whip out a scale or look up the weight on a list going by the drone model. I ask because if they go by model, I do nit have to worry about my extended feet and gimbal guard putting the weight over by 20 grams. Maybe if I see a cop, I could just send thé mini 2 into a lake or crash it Into a tree. Much cheaper than paying the fine.

As is the Pro 7, the Pro 8 is a FANTASTIC device. I received the 8 on Tuesday with 96% charge. I topped it off and currently this Saturday morning I'm at 55%. My guess is that in the long run it will last a bit longer than the 7 Pro. Much easier to handle with the various controllers. The 3-D printed one from TriplTek makes things quite easy. I prefer it over the PGYTECH adapter. Highly recommended!

@RemotePilotsAustralia3 жыл бұрын
I have had the 7” pro for three weeks and am very happy with it, it would have been nice to have had a heads up that a new model was almost here before laying out $1000Au but there you go. I’m open to being corrected but the while the new 8” is indeed way more powerful than the original 7” Tripltek both of the pro models have an 8 core 2ghz processor and 8Gb of ram. I understand that the 8” pro processor is a little faster than the 7” pro but from the perspective of use case flying drones there’s not a lot in it . The extra battery capacity is going to be offset driving the bigger higher res display so again it’s going to be use case based. If you want an all singing all dancing media consumption tablet then obviously the 8” Pro will be for you but if you are buying it solely for drones then the 7” Pro will meet your needs at a lower price point. Tripltek can supply both anti reflective and clear screen protectors for the 7” models, I don’t see why the 8” will be any different so perhaps the gloss screen will not be the issue some fear. For those asking for comparison between the Tripltek tablets and the DJI smart controller it’s simple. There isn’t one. From my perspective as a commercial operator who uses a lot of 3rd party software the Tripltek rules. I sold my smart controller in deep disappointment but please remember, 1200nits is only twice as bright to the human eye as 300nits so you are not going to see a huge difference in brightness to the smart controller.

@@TomZimmerlinkat HI Tom, I agree that there is probably no need to upgrade from my 7" Pro but like most commercial operators I do like to have a backup so I will probably buy an 8" Pro as well shortly although at $1400Au it's a steep ask. How does it compare to an iPad? The latest one is less than half the cost, way bigger screen, and probably lighter. I don't think it'll be as bright but, like you said, not much difference from 300 nits to 1200 nits to the eye. The ipad has a glossy screen like the 8" pro. How does the matte screen of the 7" pro compare when outdoors in bright sunlight? What features of the Tripltek make it a better choice for you as a drone pilot?

@ivaneberle39723 жыл бұрын
Steve, at this price level it will need to be great and do quite a lot more than be just an extra-bright screen that plays games. Does it play back 4K 60p video from a drone with a MicroSD card reader plugged into the USB-C slot (I've got a Google Pixel that has Android 11 that plays well with a $15 Smart reader from Amazon-- but only if the card is formatted in the phone). Does it play 6K or 8K natively with that discrete GPU? Does it EDIT video (an iPad Pro does!). Is there Wacom pen support and does it work seamlessly for drawing? How's the color gamut and accuracy? Is it anything close to being a device that could replace a laptop? The earlier 7" Tripletek Pro doesn't tick many/any of those boxes--does this one? I ask because $800 will blow most of the budget somebody (myself included) might otherwise spend on a device that could do all these other things well.
@CAPTAINDRONE7983 жыл бұрын
It could probably play back the video (I have not tried it), but the screen is not going to show you 4K or 6K or 8K so kind of defeats that point. Also, it is not designed as a photography device... even though the camera is 21 MP, it still shoots video at 1080p. This is why I said, if you want to compare another tablet to this one, make sure it does the same (i.e., it is also a phone) and has all the military spec features.
@ivaneberle39723 жыл бұрын
I want to like this TT 8 Pro, I really do. Does it at least allow field review of recently shot drone footage, or does it choke on 4K 60p? (Playback resolution, card slot ease-of-use notwithstanding.) That'd be non-negotiable in comparing it to a phone-like phablet, for me.

Hi Captain Drone I've got the drone bug bad thanks for all the videos. I've have a question I own a Mavic 2 zoom and have just ordered a Tripltek 8 (thanks to your encouragement lol) which is the right cable is it a 1 ft mirco usb (Mavic controller) to standard usb (Tripltek)? All the best.

What is the issue with the Tripltek Pro 8 tablet running Occusense 3+ with the Mavic 3?

Tablets and Phones do not have Ocusync on them. Ocusync is on the controller that the tablet or phone connects to.

Hi Steve, excellent review of the Tripltek Pro 8" tablet. The 8" screen is larger than the Tripltek 7" Pro tablet, but I wonder how long the battery lasts comparing both tablets. Also, the Tripltek tablets are charged by the Autel EVO ll controller where the controller battery can be flattened quickly. Tripltek sells a $40 cable to minimize the Tripltek charging current.
@BlairAir3 жыл бұрын
That current reduction cable you mention is brilliant. The USB-C spec (if you use real USB-C and not just a C-type CONNECTOR - requires the charge line to be active to pass data on the other lines. I don't know the exact mechanism, but the fact they made charging a requirement with no way (anyone has found that I know of) to override or sidestep it was short sighted. Perhaps new revisions to USB-C have or will address it. Then Android devices will need to provide FW that takes advantage of it of course. I detest being locked down on things that make sense for 90% of use-cases, but make the 10% needing alternatives suffer.

I received my Pro 8 on Tuesday with a 96% initial charge. I topped it off and it has been ON ever since. Currently this Saturday morning I have 55% battery. The 2,200 mAh seems to make a little bit of a difference. My Pro 7 would usually last about 5 days with moderate usage. With the larger screen and better guts I'd imagine the 8 will fall into the same battery life. Highly recommended!!!

Like on 7 inch model, also on this model quick transfer for Mini2 still isn't working. WiFi of Mini2 just isn't recognised. Both my Samsung phones are working fine with it, bu no, not the tripltek. Seems that this tablet has problems with 5G WiFi. I'm Soo disappointed wright now, that was one of the reasons I bought this 8inch tablet. Then I switched on hotspot on my Samsung A50 set to 5G wifi, tripltek recognized that, but was showing 2,4G frequency in the connection properties. Maybe that has something to do with tripltek manual saying it has 2,4/5G "one stream" Wifi? Just guessing... Well, I will definetly contact tripltek. Seems I just don't have luck with their tablets...

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Heeey!!! I've figured it out, after a few days of frustration and trying different things. First go into airplane mode, switch on bluetooth and WiFi, turn on Mini2, press quick transfer button on Mini2, open DJI fly app and...It connects, with full 5G WiFi. It works, don't know why, but Mini2 wifi is recognised only in airplain mode. But what is interesting is that on my Samsung phones, which connect to mini2 on normal mode, on connection properties it says it is "connected through Google", while on tripltek it says "connected through DJI fly". So I'm thinking it has to do something with Tripltek/Google compatibility. 🤔 Otherwise the tablet is awesome, I like the design, specs, the size of the screen is just right for the controller, easy editing through DJI fly app. I really don't regret buying it.

5G is very new and most phones only use it intermittently because you have to be near a tower for it to work, so it could be awhile before 5G is common.
