It’s shocking that a man with such an amazing voice was not able to break through to the general public. In the mid 60s Quincy Jones made his acquaintance, and was so impressed that he produced one of his records. This particular song is from the late 60s and as everybody can hear, he was the real deal. RIP Carl. 🕊❤️🎼

Quincy Jones produced his one of his records and he still didn’t make it big? There’s so many people in the past that had such talent but didn’t make it big in the industry for one reason or another.
@rarelycares84168 ай бұрын
There are thousands of amazing voices out there that never make it. It takes a lot more, the songs, the style, the image, and just plain luck as well. Nowadays the voice seems to be the smallest part of making it.

His star never rose high but he didn't fade or die, he just took a path that produced, did some Broadway, off Broadway, movie bits, backup, songwriting, soundtracks.... His 2023 Compilation release is a must listen. It captures a history that should be explored, brought together in one release. Finally.

I'll be 63 in a few days, and I'm still amazed that I only first heard about this man in the last couple years. It is a shame that the vast majority of your listeners will not hear him, having skipped over this because they don't know the name. Lorraine Ellison doing 'Stay With Me' would be the female counterpart. Transcendent.

This poor guy had an amazing voice and was very talented. He never really caught on to publicity and promotion, because it seemed as though every time he signed with a record label, nobody really took interest in his recordings. I mean, he made them stop and listen and he was good enough to sign on as an artist, but they never really followed through on this guy. He signed with some bigger labels back then, but never seemed to be considered more than a studio vocalist to sing background. It's a shame, because we should have heard a lot more from him in his lifetime. In his early days he was a great Gospel Singer, but that never makes you money or gets you the promotion you need, when you simply travel with Gospel Groups. He was just one of those talented people who seemed to get buried in the system and changing times in music.

Immensely talented singer! One of the reasons Carl never broke through is because the Loma record label didn't last long enough to properly promote him. He was on some other record labels too but just never got a decent chance. A couple of other great Carl Hall tunes include "Mean It Baby" (the flip of this song) and "What About You," from the early '70s.

Many times he was held back or betrayed by managers or producers. They did not want one of his songs to come out for instance when Aretha had something or another artist. Positioning/timing was everything. They paid certain ones to hold him back. But I praise God they held him back as I got to know the business more and what they’d ask these black artists to do. I’m just glad to have spent my life with him🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 He was the best!!! And loved God with ALL his heart. A perfectionist and great dad.

Thank you for examining his music. I appreciate you !!! I’m just glad that I got to spend my life with him. He was the best father a girl could ever hope for. His character and love for God was beyond compare. His dedication was unquestionably the best I’ve seen in my lifetime. He was a hard act to follow but praise God He gave me away to a man with the same strength, perfection, affection, character and love for God. I watched him train artist and do many plays and backup vocals arrangements for many artist: Stephanie Mills, Bette Midler, Carol King, Bonnie Tyler, Stevie Wonder, Frankie Valli, Martha Wash, just to name a few. Many commercials we lived off of like Miller Beer, Lees Jeans, and many others done with Tasha Thomas. He was able to work and be there for his friends, family and Church Family/Community. That’s the part I really loved, his availability, his real loving, no-nonsense character.😁 Ask Peggie Blue, she turned out much like him in training other talented youth in competitions just like he trained, very strict😂, a total perfectionist but when he was done with a training, the vocals were out of this world.🤣 Just reminiscing. I’m just glad I saw this site. He’s my hero. I’m just glad to see the youth discovering how soulful/wonder-filled he was. RIP daddy and God bless not only the life you lived but the life you left behind. 💐🙏🏽
