Donna Summer had an amazing and easily identifiable voice. You could never mistake her
@JimmieJamOfTheDay
@JimmieJamOfTheDay 2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes, one can mistake her because she could fool you. The Wanderer, Nightlife, and Eyes are song examples of this. Normally, when she sings in her usual belting voice, that's when she's most identifiable. Last Dance, Hot Stuff and She Works Hard For The Money are some examples of this.

Donna has 3 daughters. The youngest, Amanda Sudano Ramirez (pure and angelic voice, just like her mom), sings with her husband Abner Ramirez and they go by the name JOHNNYSWIM. A few years ago, when their oldest son Joaquin was still a toddler, they showed in an instagram video where they were playing this song and immediately upon hearing that beautifully silky voice over synth and strings, Joaquin (dancing around in the living room) stops in his tracks and with excitement, in his squeaking little voice, said 'Gamma?!' Oh! My heart! It melted. He never got to meet his grandmother, but he knew her through her music. I thought that to be a beautiful connection his mother and father helped to give him that will be as timeless as the song itself. That one moment has stayed with me since and now every time I hear this intro, I remember it.

Donna Summer was the biggest female artist of the late 1970's and probably the only artist to have 3 double albums to hit number 1 back-to-back-to-back. She also replaced herself at number one on the Billboard singles chart, replacing "Hot Stuff" with "Bad Girls" in 1979. Although she was a huge star, her incredible voice has been highly under-rated and she doesn't get the same kind of props as a Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey. Great reaction!

She sang this in the Movie "Thank God It's Friday", which she was a young singer trying to get a break and have them play her music in the clubs. She busted out on stage and started singing "Last Dance" and the rest is history. The song won an Academy Award for Best Song in a Movie. Do "Dim All the Lights", longest note held by a female artist to hit Top 10 (#2) 1979 (I was 20 OMG, LOL), it's at the beginning of the song. It's tied with "All Out of Love" by Air Supply, 16 seconds.

Donna Summer is one of my all time favorite singers. She takes me back to the late 70s, reminding me of my middle school years. Her voice was so powerful yet pure. She had so many great songs and was certainly the Queen of Disco. She did a VH1 concert in 1999 which showcases many of her hits. She also did a couple of concerts in the Netherlands in the mid/late 2000s called Night of the Proms which also had tremendous versions of some of her hits. Thank you for the great reaction! I saw Donna sing Last Dance live in 1978 and again in 2011 and she hit and sustained every single note. Listen to Donna at 4:20 go from head voice to chest voice and into sustained falsetto. AMAZING!!! Donna's range never changed, a rare creature, the greatest singer ever, her talent was off the charts among female singers. Besides her amazing vocal talent, she is the only artist to have won Grammy awards in four different music categories, Rock, dance, R&B and Gospel. Donna could sing any song anywhere anytime acapella. Her beauty, her grace, her talent, her confidence all rolled into one package in one very classy lady.

Thank you for your wonderful reaction. Last Dance (from the 1978 film Thank God It's Friday which featured Donna) was not only a commercial success but also received critical acclaim winning the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Original Song from a motion picture and a Grammy for Best Rhythm & Blues Female Vocal for Donna. Donna was the undisputed queen of disco and a truly gifted vocalist with a solid theater background who could sing any genre. She had great vocal control which is why she could pull off singing sexy, sultry anthems using her falsetto or rock-flavored bangers with her sweet yet powerful voice. She remains one of the best-selling female artists in pop music history. By the way, it's Donna SUMMER which is an anglicized version of her Austrian husband's surname. People always mistake her surname for Summers because during her prime, there were two other popular women with the same surname but spelled differently. One was Suzanne SOMERS (Chrissy Snow in Three's Company) and the other was Jaime SOMMERS (The Bionic Woman played by Lindsay Wagner).

The Disco Queen! Her songs are amazing. We played them at our dances back in the 70’s. 🙏🙏

Although the media called her the Queen of Disco, the LATE, GREAT Donna Summer could song ANY genre of music. If you saw her live performances, she could belt out notes EFFORTLESSLY. Not long before, she passed away from lung cancer (never smoked) at age 63, she could sing all of her hits in the original key. Her voice never changed, a true gift from God.

So glad I got to meet this Queen. She was so much more than Disco, and I told her exactly that! She could and WOULD hold the microphone 2 feet away, and her voice would still fill the room!

Queen of disco... before my mother passed when I was a kid, she used to blast this album while cleaning or whatever. So I have a special place in my heart for Donna Summers music.

You can ask anyone between the ages of 50 and 70, this was LITERALLY the last song played at every party, gathering, wedding etc. When it came on EVERYONE jumped up and started dancing, knowing the music would stop after this song. When this song was over, the party was over and we all left in a great mood!

I did cry when I learned she passed. She was a huge part of my music generation. Every time a music artist passes who's music brought joy, smiles and precious memories to my life it chips off another section off my heart. I love music. Always have. Music has played a huge role in my life. I have yet to find a medication that eases my pains the way music with memories do. I was a welder for the same company for 30 years before I retired. We were allowed to have mp3 players to listen to as we worked. That is what got me through every hot summer and cold winters. 70-80's music was 80% of the music that was on my iPod. I have yet to hear music that is as good as the 70-80's.
