Amazing Going-to-the-Sun Road (Short Version) - Glacier National Park, Montana MT.
Ride with us (from a driver’s point of view) as we travel up the west side of Glacier National Park towards Logan Pass and the continental divide. Going-to-the-Sun road is an engineering masterpiece and is considered to be one of the most scenic highways in the world.
Glacier National Park was originally designed to be seen by horseback. A road into the center of the park was requested once automobiles became popular with tourists. Men labored 20 years building this marvelous roadway designed to blend with Glacier’s magnificent landscape.
Going-to-the-Sun road was dedicated in 1933. Stunning vistas await you as you travel the 50 mile scenic highway. It was the first national park road designed to complement scenic wonders. Logan Pass sits on the continental divide at 6,646 feet above sea level.
This is the first road to be designated a National Historic Landmark and is a National Civil Engineering Landmark. The road is also on the National Register of Historic Places.
This sequence was captured with a GoPro Hero 3 camera and edited with Adobe Premier Pro.

I'm glad to enjoy this brief escape from the comfort of my home without being nervous or having to drive. Thank you. You did a really good job filming; I could almost feel like I was in the vehicle. Great editing for this short version. You picked very scenic parts. The Creator is a Master Artist, and you, creator of this video, did an artistic job in creating the video.

Michele, I am so pleased you liked this video of our drive in Glacier National Park. We live 3 hours from Glacier and 4 hours from Yellowstone. We make it to each park maybe once every 10 years or so, not enough visits for sure. Like you said, the Creator is a Master Artist and it is awesome to enjoy. Many thanks for the great comments, I really do appreciate it. Dave in western Montana.

We just returned home yesterday after a week in Glacier. The scenery is beyond spectacular and the Going to the Sun road is the centerpiece of it all. Driving this road several times during our visit, making our way back and forth from West to East Glacier is an experience I will never forget! What an incredible blessing it is to have access to such breathtaking beauty. Thanks for posting this video so I can show my friends where we were. Of course pictures and videos don't do it justice but its a good start. Just seeing this video makes my heart pound and hands sweat again just like being there. Thanks!

Veronica, once again, thank you! Your comments are always so pleasing. I live in Missoula and Glacier National Park is only three hours away. I need to explore there more often. michael lee Thanks for that info. I’ve travelled around the mid-west on holidays a few times and spent a few weeks working from Knoxville (paramedic). The size of your country makes getting into wide open spaces quite easy and enjoyable. Love the mountains, Utah, Colorado, Nevada, etc. Not sure about going back to California. Lovely place but the people there... ? A bit cramped here in England with so few travelling overseas at the moment. I guess if I lived in the US, that wouldn’t be a problem. Enjoy your beautiful country.

michael lee Issues... yes. And we’re having some of them over here too. But it was always going to happen - just needed a trigger for the hordes of Marxists waiting to rise up. Even George Floyd wouldn’t have wanted all this to happen, I suspect. It’s much worse in the US (for now). I can’t understand why people would vote in mayors that want to bring about the destruction of their city’s law and order.

Stunningly beautiful park. We went last year and the red busses weren't running. I hate heights. Driving that road was really hard on me. Freaking out a little but told my wife I'd do it and we went as far as Logan's Pass. Couldn't go much further east because the road was closed near the eastern side. Beautiful park and will go back when I know the busses are running. I'll let somebody else drive the next time!

I never took the opportunity to ride one of the red "jammers". I should some year since we live only four hours from the park. So many people want to experience GNP that they are now selling passes and only let in a certain number of cars per day. Some of our National Parks are being loved to death (sorry for the choice of words) thus the need to restrict. Do have fun on your next visit. I finally had a chance to visit Glacier National Park. It was in the middle of summer and the weather was beautiful in the days leading up to my trip. I started in SW Montana and took my time. I stopped to see the buddhas, and was going to do a skydiving trip along the way....but it was too windy so they cancelled me. I finally got up to Glacier....and the weather was cold, damp and cloudy. I still took in the sites the best I could....still very pretty....and made my way into Canada that night. Waterton Lakes, on the Canadian side of Glacier Park, is pretty too.

For this sequence I used a GoPro Hero3. I would suggest two GoPro Hero8 cameras set for 4K UHD at 60 frames/second. Place each camera on your rig pointing forward at 33 degrees from center. That way you could switch between cameras during your editing process. This is what I will do the next time I am on this road. Thanks for viewing and for your question. Enjoy your trip! Dave.

If you drive from east to west you will be in the lane closest to the mountain. If you travel from the west to the east you will be on the outside lane. Guardrails exist on the entire route and the maximum speed is limited by signage but the traffic usually moves slower. You can get to either east or west entrances by a highway that loops just south of the park. You can use this road as part of your loop plan. You should be fine. It's one of those roads that millions of visitors explore each year and talk about frequently thereafter. Thanks for viewing and asking. Dave.

Too funny. This was captured in August six years ago. The morning scenes were captured around 7am before most tourists had their first cup of coffee. The afternoon scenes coming back from Logan Pass had road construction. Fortunately we were at the end of the pack and I purposely drove slow so you wouldn’t see the bumper-bumper cars in front of me. Deceiving? Yes, but it does show the road a lot better without seeing taillights all the time. We see that too often in our city’s and towns. Glacier NP has a lottery of sorts, letting in only X number of cars/day. Watching TV I see it still is bumper to bumper up there. Slow going? Yes. Worth the experience? MOST DEFINITELY! Thanks for viewing and commenting. Dave in western Montana, nestled between Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park. Ps: I posted a long version of Going to the Sun (30 minutes) and shows both the west side (this video) and the east side. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6rbf6SVo7SWrNk

You missed the best parts by only viewing the road.

Sorry, but this video was made of the road, not the park. Thanks for viewing and for your comment. Dave.

Horseshit. The roads in the mountains of Nepal make this look like a 5 lane highway.
