Gold digging geology - Garnets and black sands .... Knowing your garnets and blacks sands, helps you interpret the geology of the area, but also the preponderance of shinies appearing in the gold pan or sluice. If you find garnets, you are bound to find nearby gold. NW Ontario has sedimentary metamorphic garnets that were pushed along by ancient glaciers into the northern Wisconsin territories up to the Central-North mountain range ... or were part of the igneous and tectonic uplift of Wisconsin mountain range, and erosion has washed them down the north face of the mountains. Garnets are silicates (sand quartz) with metallic colorings. Garnets will be found as QUARTZITES. Garnets are as heavy as black sands. Knowing your black sands helps to understand your garnets and vice versa. UNDERWATER wet-formed sedimentary Iron forms hematite, while UNDERGROUND dry-formed igneous Iron forms magnetite. Black sands come from eroded (1) underground dry-formed igneous aphanetic basalt, (2) underground dry-formed igneous phanetic granite, or (3) underwater wet-formed sedimentary Iron hematite leached from ancient fresh (and salt) water sources. Iron bandings in sandstone layers are underwater wet-formed black sand hematite. One needs to understand those NW Ontario sedimentary geologies in this context. Sediments and tan sands. Leached iron bandings in the sandstone (wet-formed black sands) from the ancient Ontario-Wisconsin shallow sea once there. Massive volumes of Lake Superior sediments were gouged out by the glaciers and pushed up against the Wisconsin mountains. Ontario and Lake Superior have hematites. Wisconsin mountains have some remains of the shallow sea hematites, but more-so those of the igneous formed granite and rhyolite magnetites. IF - one finds garnets and black sands remaining in the gold pan with the shinies, and NO tan sands (but can have clays and silts), tells that the source for those garnets come from an igneous source, the Central-North granite and rhyolite mountain range (where other gold mines are located). These black sands would be high concentrations of Iron magnetite. IF - the greater absence of black sands, and more of the tan sands (sedimentary sands), then this would be from the NW Ontario geologies and glacier movements. These black sands would be high concentrations of water--formed Iron hematite. And IF you find black Iron sands and tan Quartz sands then this is from the NW Ontario geologies ... AND ... can have eroded material from the Wisconsin mountains. These black sands would be both concentrations of Iron hematite and magnetite. **** What you have here are garnets from BOTH the Wisconsin mountain range - and - the NW Ontario glacier sediments ! Garnets are usually found washed down from a "MICA"-schist high underground pressure metamorphic geology, or less-so from underground pure igneous granite or rhyolite formations. Granites are large-size crystal structure rocks (phanetics = crystals). They contain feldspar (pinkish potassium silicates), pure (clear) quartz and (dusky) QUARTZITE silicon crystals (silicon dioxides), and plates of MICA (biotite or muscovite). Garnets remain, when all of the surrounding matrix has eroded, the garnets fall out, and then washed downstream in creeks, or pushed up on lake shorelines. These igneous granite and mica-related garnets would be from the Wisconsin mountain range. 6 different varieties of garnets exist worldwide. 3 varieties are found on the American continent. They are 70% almandine, 20% grossular and 10% pyrope. - Almandine garnet is an Iron-Aluminium silicate with the formula Fe3Al2(SiO4)3. The deep red or purple transparent stones are often called precious garnet. These would be Iron-associated with igneous sources as magnetites. - Grossular garnet is a Calcium-Aluminum silicate with the formula Ca3Al2(SiO4)3. But, the Calcium may, in part, be replaced by Ferrous Iron and the Aluminium by Ferric Iron. The name grossular is given as this Iron produces the green garnet color. These shallow sea are Calcium-associated and water-formed Iron-leached hematites. - Pyrope garnet is a Magnesium-Aluminum silicate with the formula Mg3Al2(SiO4)3. Although, typically other elements are present in at least minor proportions-these other elements include Ca, Cr, Fe and Mn. The color is dark and blackish. These are igneous ultra-mafic rocks (basalts), whereas one would consider the Calcium and Magnesium as being shallow sea related. These Iron black sands would be magnetites. Your garnets are portions of Wisconsin mountain almandines and NW Ontario grossulars.
@johnlord833710 ай бұрын
Having the knowledge of the garnets and black sands, then allows you to interpret what gold will be available. NW Ontario evaporate gold and water-formed hematite (from the ancient shallow Ontario-Wisconsin sea) will be here. Igneous and alluvial water-eroded quartz, quartzite garnets, magnetite black sands, with igneous gold will also be found here. Sounds like the best of both worlds - glacial sedimentary AND tectonic gold ready for acquisition.

Before a creek, stream, or river meandered, it ran relatively straight. So when i see those bends i know that they are there because of sand and gravel, yes, even cobbles, building a bench, or bar which curved or turned it. In these deposits you'll find clay. Slowly concentrated through the years. So, you then have two forms of concentration. Erosion from the bank and sluicing down the current. As you go downstream from the inside bend it will deposit a gravel bar. This should be good, but because of trying to reconcentration the clay and thereby the gold particles are washed away. Try to picture the creek before it meandered. That's when things will get interesting. Nice show on the gold.😊

Crazy Jason, 17° water, knowing theres a hole in the waders... thinking about a boiling frog, (with stomach growling) after he ate all of the dogs jerky! I Love the last shot of the HUGE Pile of Gold and Jewels... a few more like that, and he Never has to pick up another Cinder Block! Unless he Wants to...
