I am very happy that I can listen to the wounderful song "amazing grace" with orchestra, choir and bagpipes. I know this song for many years. Recently I could listen to this song in our church: a young american lady sung this song. I asked her :" Please, tell me the name of this song"and she answered: the name of this song is "AMAZING GRACE":

Mr. Thompson. As an old videographer and editor myself, I completely understand camera issues. And I wanted to tell you, there is absolutely no reason to apologize. The sound came through, and you handled your camera down time expertly. Now, as an old Irishman, when the bagpiper came in, I had tears streaming down my face. This is one of the most moving versions of this lovely old Hymn it has ever been my pleasure to witness.Bravo to the Stonebriar Community Church, and all involved. It was simply grand. Thanks so much for sharing this.

Awesome arrangement and performance. (Why people are commenting about the bag pipes being, "out of tune," I will never know. Don't these folks understand that is the nature of the instrument. There is no way a bag pipe is going to be able to tune to A440, let alone be in tune with the organ and instrumentalists.) I'm a life-long church choir director and so appreciate the wonderful performance of this great hymn. Congratulations!!

When I was a church organist one wedding I played for the bride wanted the wedding march to involve the bag pipes. When the piper could not get the instrument tuned in with the organ I told him to play her in with a solo. The ceremony went forward and, to my knowledge, everyone was happy with the slight change in arrangement.

The bagpipes can play nicely with the organ when tuned to B flat (the original chanter pitch of the instrument)

I agree with you fully; however, as a person with perfect pitch, it really bothers me that the bagpipes can't tune to A440. However, I can still really appreciate the culture, nature, and style of the bagpipes when played correctly, and this is the first time I've seen it done well with a choir and orchestra!

The Great Highland bagpipes were never meant to play with other instruments. In pipe music, the written "A" is actually, roughly, a concert B flat. They actually make two different chanters. One for regular play and one to be played with other instruments. This is especially true with the small pipes such as border pipes, kitchen pipes and the Irish Uillienn pipes that sound so sweet and are popular in movies as background music when pipes are called for. Our pipe band puts on a local, free, concert for the public every winter. At first we tried to include the church organ but it just didn't work out. We could never get the two to tune together. It was a pipe organ so we couldn't electronically alter it for the pipes. I hope this sheds some light on the subject. This was a great arrangement though. Very powerful. I loved it.

Nonninn N. Well, it's more than a nice song. This is something I read on a Gospel Tract on LivingWaters.com, it might interest you: " THE FAMOUS HYMN “Amazing Grace” has been recorded by more than 7,000 artists, including Willie Nelson, Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash. It was written by John Newton, a former slave trader, and the “grace” he spoke of is the unearned favor of God. It was God’s “amazing grace” that opened his blind eyes to the reality of His love. John Newton discovered that on Judgment Day God will judge us by the Ten Commandments, and that Jesus said, “Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Newton knew that all of us are guilty to some degree, and when he wrote “how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me,” he was speaking of being saved from a very real Hell. The Bible warns that “all liars will have their part in the lake of fire,” and who of us hasn't lied, lusted, stolen, or used God’s name in vain? We are all guilty and heading for Hell, but this is where God’s amazing grace comes in. Because God is “rich in mercy,” He sent His Son to be our Savior. Jesus Christ paid the penalty for sinners by dying on the cross 2,000 years ago. The Bible says, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Then He rose from the dead and defeated the power of the grave. If we repent (turn from our sins) and trust in the Savior alone, God will forgive us and grant us everlasting life (something infinitely more valuable than anything money can buy). Have you done that? The moment you do you’ll be “born again” and you will say with John Newton, “Amazing grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see.” " www.needGod.com
