When I saw them perform this at the Hollywood Bowl they added about four minutes of spontaneous riffs, they were laughing and playing back and forth like Prize Fighters exchanging blows... Paco stood up and leaned towards Al... so he stood up and the crowd was roaring at the spectacle we were witnessing. After the song they both bowed then Al raised Paco's hand and declared him the Winner. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen in a live concert.... AWESOME

One of my all time favorite albums. Most of the songs are jazz fusion played on electric guitar. The second guitar is played was played by flamenco great Paco DeLucia .

Great choice and reaction. When I was about 19 years old I wanted to expand my musical knowledge beyond what was being played on the radio. I worked in a record store at the time and someone suggested the band Return to Forever where Al was the guitarist. I later bought several of his solo albums. I was fortunate enough to see him and his band at a little club called Havanah's in New Hope Pennsylvania. The club only holds about 100 people, so it was a very intimate setting. He was incredible. I encourage you to check out the song Fantasia Suite for Two Guitars.

Now JM... You can say you have heard what many, including myself think is the Greatest Guitarist ever play this and the black Gibson in the album cover...."Elegant Gypsy Suite":.... You're Welcome. On The House, as usual.

Al Di Meola was touring is Spain, He heard about Paco de Lucia, Al found him and invited Paco to N.Y.C. to record with him. At the Jimi Hendrix "Electric Lady Land" studios. There was no written music,,, yet. The first day Paco was tired and too tease to play the way he wanted being a 'Perfectionist" (Al) SO, Al had a friend get some "Really Good stuff" Cannabis, The next day they sat five feet apart facing each other in a perfect mood and hit the record button, not knowing what they were going to play, Paco played his parts and Al played his parts starring and smiling at each other. At the end it is Paco who whistles. That is how they performed it live when I saw them.

I have the album, saw it performed live and they talked about it. This song most certainly is on that album. I have seen them talk about how they wrote it TOGETHER after Al heard about Paco,

On the same album, song number 5 is only 1.47 long of these two together... You should hear it. Magical....."Lady of Rome, Sister of Brazil"

"AMAZING"... Yep. I saw Di Meola Live at the Hollywood Bowl.. This song has the skills of Paco de Lucia with him. They wrote it together unrehearsed, just started playing and this resulted. Hard to explain how the entire audience were in a Trance from what we were watching Both acoustic and with his black Gibson he is a phenomenal artist. The album.. "Elegant Gypsy" voted Greatest Guitar Album in the 70s. Thanks again JM. I knew this would tickle your ears.

@@Serai3 Paco may have played an older piece and Al Played the lead mostly on this song creating a totally NEW song with a NEW Name. Al was the one behind them getting together. Unless he is lying when they are interviewed and I didn't hear what I know I heard from them both.

At the very end of the song you can hear Paco de Lucia whistle

Paco on left uses only his fingers and has been said to have the fastest thumb & fingers ever... Al on right uses a pick and is said to be the most controlled pick user ever... Cool

Thanks, JM. You found a track from my younger days! There were so many great musos back in the 70s playing complex jazz fusion. i could recommend 100s from that time but maybe I'll jump to the present with Mike Dawes version of Evermore. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3rdo3t4f6Z4b80. Keep scratching away.

Easily my favorite from the gentleman. There are some great live versions with Paco de Lucia and John McLaughlin joining in.
