Great video, great lick, and thanks to...well...you, I'm happy to say that I had it almost immediately upon hearing it. When I watched my first Adam Gussow video, about eight and a half years ago, I never imagined that, one day, I'd be able to simply hear a lick and immediately know how to reproduce it, but with you as a teacher, it's almost as though one can't help reaching such a level. I've said it before, and I'll say it again; I'll never be able to thank you enough.

Hey AG! I really appreciate your kindness. I'm learning a lot about the measure of control you have over your bends. Doing my best to dissect each phrase. Also, I noticed in one particular viewer comment a request for you to slow down and enjoyed your response. I can't imagine someone not knowing the feature to change playback speed provided right at bottom right of the video. It looks like a gear, for those unaware. Click on it and speed up or slow down playback as you need it. Peace!

Hey man! Great vid! I've been playing the harmonica for almost a year now but something is bugging me. I have a C Honner Marine Band 1986 harmonica, just like you in the video (I think), and I'm pretty sure that I'm hitting all of these bends (and doing the little bit of the four draw on the three draw half step bend), but, for some reason, my shuffle rhythm still doesn't sound as bluesy as yours do. Also, I still don't know what to really do with my hands lol. Any help? Anyway, keep up with the great lessons! Its been helping me a lot! Thank you!

Hey Adam - thanks for this! Really enjoyed all three lessons. May I get a bit of extra help from you to tie the lessons together please? In first one you used a -3' 4 3 -3' riff along with the chugging. Then you introduced -1 -2" chug -2 and -2 -3' -2 -3" -2 riffs. How do we merge all those together into twelve bars? Thanks!

Very good lesson. For a next step in the series, I'd love to hear how you would play this over the V chord. It sounds great over I and IV, but how do you suggest we vary it when it comes to the V and turnaround?
@gussowsclassicbluesharmoni2726
@gussowsclassicbluesharmoni2726 7 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. You can experiment in this direction by playing along with a jam track and seeing how it sounds over the V chord. Short answer: move to the 1 draw and blow on bars 9 & 10.

@alexmc69 5 жыл бұрын
I played Special 20s (plastic comb, recommended by JP Allen) but found them a little shrill/harsh. I tried a Marine Band (wooden comb) and whilst I loved the warm, woody tone, the rough wood mouthpiece and exposed reed plates were uncomfortable to play and left me with torn up/painful lips after only an hour of use. Since then I've discovered Seydel Session Steels which are perfect for me - plastic combs, very solid construction, warm tone and sculpted ends which fit in your hand very nicely.

i started playing 2 days ago and i have watched all your videos from 1 2 and now this (3). youre a great teacher thanks for the help, im currently playing with a Hohner Pioneer C ($13) , Im really struggling with the 2 draw as it makes a kind of tired flat note, im ok with the other single notes. Im just curious, is there a big difference with playing with this compared to a marine band (I have just ordered one), as i really am struggling to find the 2 draw note. Thanks mate!!
@gussowsclassicbluesharmoni2726

Every single beginner has trouble with the 2 draw early on. Especially on a C harp. You might try a D harp. Sometimes that makes the 2 draw easier to play in tune.

Another Great lesson Adam, Muchas Gracia Amigo! . . . but, 1 constructive criticism & 1 suggestion: a) P-u-l-e-a-s-e Slow Down when you're playing it, we already heard it at full speed in the Intro; b) You can add a lil Riff incorporating the 4-5 holes, so we go play a Riff using the 4 or 5, then swing back into the 1-2-3 basic Rhythm, like the other Riffs; I got this lesson down about 1/3 speed & would like another Riff that leads away from the Home/2 then comes back to the basic Rhythm pattern (*) Here's a 'Star' for all your generous lessons. P.S. I liked your Solo out in Calif. at David Barrett jam.
@gussowsclassicbluesharmoni2726

Not sure if you watched the whole video. I play it extremely slowly--hyper-slow; 1/3 speed or 1/4 speed--starting at 4:18. Sounds as though you're hoping not only that I'll show you everything I know, breaking it down into component parts as I do here, but that I'll play a sustained jam-track version at 1/3 speed so that you can jam along. That's not how I work; it's not how I've ever worked. What YOU would do if you were a resourceful student is download this video, convert it to an mp3, throw it in the Amazing Slow-Downer app, and slow down the part where I play it full speed. Then you could jam along. You wouldn't tell me that I need to indulge your every desire. No serious student expects that; no good teacher does that. I appreciate your praise on other points.

Try to draw some air and produce the sound ''Kaa'' without the harp. This way you'll learn how your palate must be shaped to bend. Bending is almost only a palate thing. Once you get it your tongue will place itself at the right place. My trick to get the 1/2 steps is to say 'Ha' - 'Hai' - 'Ho' Practice with a guitar tuner (plenty of free phone apps). You must reach all the notes you can see on harps charts for a given hole. Hope this help. (Source: Several hours of frustrations and practices)
