Fascinated by the way you sneak up on the marks, saw cut well away from the line then carefully chisel up to the finish line. Very important, I see now. Thank you.

Great work. Still I have a question: Isn´t that open end of dovetail on second pice weakpoint of whole joint? Seems to me to be easiest part to break, considering wood grain... Left this piece more connected with rest of beam by some sort of plating (not have that dovetail open through whole width of beam) could make it more robust and at the end it could cover that dovetail joint of third piece after final assemby. But just asking.

such a fantastic joint it is amazing to see it done. Question how do you have you chisels sharpened since your chisels are shaped differently to the european style is it flat honed on a stone or just interested to learn what you do for them?

David, I am 63, just diagnosed with head/neck cancer and about to go thru treatments, and I have decided this will be my stress relief work. I can’t do this stuff either, but I need a challenge to take my mind off my health issues. You practice the skills and you be That person to pass it on to someone else. You can do it, it’s wood and metal. If we mess up, try it again on the other end.

…I never saw a combination square on that bench, BRAVO! Incredible skills accumulated through so many years of building and practice. I just have a question…the tools don’t look like Japanese chisels neither the saw (doesn’t look like a Dozuki, Ryoba or Katana)…the wood used does not look like Hinoki or Keyaki, but more like Mango wood…
