If i was to make my way up yhere in winter would you point me in right direction to be on fish? Its a big lake and would hate to get lost looking or stranded in no mans land
@beaubjarnason4 ай бұрын
Yup not a problem. It is a big lake to navigate and easy to get turned around.

Nice! Lake Athabasca is really remote so I guss you don't run into a lot of fisherman during winter. Almost virgin waters with low fishing pressure I would guess.

Yes and no. Locals sport and sustenance fish it with rods and nets. There are some who travel there fairly often when the ice road is open to access it. So it is not uncommon to come across people out there and we are all getting to know each other and help each other out when things happen. But many times you do not see anyone and sometimes lose sight of shore so it can seem like you're on an ocean. Pressure compared to most lakes accessed by trucks on the lake is much lower yes. You have to REALLY want to be out there to make it happen. Thanks for watching!

I realize this is an older video but thought I may take a chance and ask. Thanks. Seems like lite rods for such big fish. What kind of rod/reel & type/lb of test line are y’all using if you don’t mind me asking ?(i just caught a newer video where you mentioned your rods. So I’ll catch up on some vids and maybe get the rest answered 👍🏼) I’ve never had an opportunity to fish like this through ice. You folks are doing excellent in my opinion. I haven’t seen trout that large in central Arkansas- we fish mainly bass, crappie & catfish down south ways. I appreciate it.

Hey sorry it took a couple days to get back to you. In most of my videos I'm using Frostbite rods and predominantly the Dump Truck and Slugger. In this video I believe it is the Slugger I have outside and Dump Truck in the ice shelter. My girlfriend is using heavy action Touge Rod Series. I randomly came across that one at Cabela's when I was looking for something to handle these big fish and didn't know about Frostbite. I had a Pflueger Trion on hers and a Pflueger President on mine. Line has been switched a few times but I am usually running between 30 and 50 lb braid. As of today I settled on 40 lb. Power Pro and see how that goes. These two Frostbite rods were lost last season along with a few others in a bad storm and rough lake conditions while I tried to get home. I did pick up another Slugger, Dump Truck and added a Mister Big. Also have switched to mostly Daiwa reels for no other reason really then they have good reviews and I was able to find them on sale. The Pflueger reels are good and I like that their handles spin off for storage. However, I lost handles also for that reason when mounted outside a case on my snowmobile. Pflueger's customer support was terrible. Couldn't get any help replacing the missing handles. Pflueger's also compared to similar sized Daiwa lack drag weight and having more of that is useful with these big fish and high test line. So to summarize in most of my videos other then the one released today with my daughter I'm using heavy equipment for these sometimes big fish. Really appreciate the support and kind words. If you have any other questions let me know. Beau

I’ve picked them up at our local Independent grocery store or the Superstore. Cheap bait and works great. When the bites on you’ll go through a couple bags. Thanks for watching.

How deep is it there where you were fishing?
@beaubjarnason10 ай бұрын
Water level fluctuates a bit but I think it was around 6-12' there. Pretty shallow for lake trout.
@GeorgeWHaydukeiii639610 ай бұрын
@@beaubjarnason I would have never guessed it was that shallow. Wow those big trout really come into the shallows when it's iced over. Cool, looks like a blast!
@beaubjarnason10 ай бұрын
@@GeorgeWHaydukeiii6396Yes it’s very unusual from what you hear most lake trout fishing occurring is much deeper water like 30-60’. I’ve caught them in shallower the 6’ of water but not very often. One time even in a river that flows into the lake when I was targeting walleye. They go where the food is.
