That's a cool machine. I used to work at a hardwood chip mill and we had a chipper that ran on two 800hp electric motors. When we were chipping it would shake the entire building. It would chip a solid tree 27 inch diameter 80 feet long and not slow down. Watching this kinda makes me miss it. I love the smell of freshly chipped wood.

Podcast idea, weekly podcast doing info on various aspects of homesteading not covered in your videos, and family projects including some things you do with or for neighbors as an outreach in faith and friendship. Also wondered if you could show us a topographical map of the homestead and how its laid out so we understand how your ponds work, and tree lot management so that we can better understand the challenges you deal with in a scale we don't get in a narrow focused video?

Definitely try doing a podcast. It would be awesome if you could have special guests as well. Some guest ideas could be other KZbin homesteaders, samurai carpenter, maybe the guy who made your ax, the ideas are limitless. Just shooting the breeze with your fellow man. Plus you could go in depth with how you got into homesteading, how you met Mrs. W, future ideas with the farm, etc.

Hi there Cody & Mrs W. Scotland calling. I have to say I really admire Mrs W. She's always getting stuck in and seems so keen to learn new things. Young Jack as well. I love how the whole family just mucks in and gets it done. I have a question though. All those trees you are shredding; are none of them any use for building projects, furniture or suchlike. Being a wood-turner I hate to see good wood get shredded, although at least you have a good use for it.

If you decide you have the time and energy to do a podcast it would be a great idea. One day you might even have guests who you are interested in to share their homesteading experiences. We use tools to tap into natural resources to develop and build great things it always amazes me when i see how people are using technology like youtube, podcasts...etc to tap into valuable human resources to teach, to share, to develop and build the character of themselves and those around them. let us do good while we have time! keep up the good work. Pine spruce and any other evergreen are pretty acidic in nature. Grass won't grow under the trees because of it. Will this cause problems in your garden for it. Might need some dolomite lime to counter that.

I have been watching you for a little over a year. I have even gone back to see many of the videos your produced prior to me discovering you. I have learned a good deal that I use on my land. With regards to podcast, IMO, words are good but when words are coupled with great pictures, in this case your videos, the message is much clearer and leave little to imagine or misinterpret. To me, videos are where I believe you should continue to expend your time and resources. Your KZbin videos have built your present audience. Will a podcast truly bring you more viewers/listeners? Don’t dilute you excellent efforts on your KZbin videos. You can’t be everything to everyone. Don’t let people pull you away from your primary objective.

Just a tip, always use a snatch block when changing the direction of the pull. If you use a tree stump as the pulley block (like you did) with synthetic rope, the rope can snap and it will drastically shorten the life of the rope. If it was wire rope, there wouldn't be any issue.
@wranglerstar7 жыл бұрын
You are right. We did it one time without the snatch block and realized we shouldn't. Did it the right way the rest of the time.

At about 18:41 stump stuck Next time try about a 2 or 3 foot log ,slack your wench line lay the log under wench line as close as possible as you tension the Wench line over the log it will roll and lift hug up tree and come free wile maintaining a straight line with you cable Just a suggestion 👍👍👍

@ 7:00min when the tree got hung up on the stump I had a suggestion to jump the tree over the stump instead of using another stump to pull in a different direction. You can wrap the fairlead around the log and therefor cause the tree to roll or twist over the object. Something I learn from my father whom was a logger from BC Canada during the 70's
