Not in my lifetime. Beijing's opening ceremony was the best I've ever seen. And I'm sure we all agree on this. London's was not bad, but it didn't carry the artistry and flawlessness of Beijing's.
@HySipher11 жыл бұрын
well, maybe you just saw the beginning and the end of the ceremony and chose to ignore all the amazing stuff in the middle. 5000 years of Chinese history was condensed in this one ceremony with music, calligraphy, dance, language, clothes from different dynasties, and the most important one, the people themselves. No offence to the London Olympics Opening Ceremony, but it should have been more serious, not just a rock concert.

I am scottish, and British, i do not believe in the monarchy but thats my thing. Anyway, the opening ceremony was quite amazing, never before has the world witnessed a ceremony like that! It was a celebration of Britain from pre-industrial revolution until right now...and heading towards the future.The integration of different cultures and races was very well done - lets be honest, it was all very well done!? It was truly beautiful and the music was fantastic...10 outta 10! Diff from bejing, yeh

Well said mate...I just can't believe that some people would come on here and argue about it. I admit, maybe I went a tad over the top in my response to the Greek guy but I standby what I said, which was not "It was the best opening ceremony ever", Beijing was...but with the issues you raised - of course it was gonna be - I said "never before has the world witnessed a ceremony like that!" and they haven't - fact. It was different, original, daring and actually maybe a tad too high brow for some!

Been staying quite a time in Australia. And also in some other countries such as Korea, Taiwan, and mainly South East Asian country. Doesn't quite see your point, most of the foreign electronics I saw are China made, with some exception for Malaysian own brand.

A couple of people have commented to protest that the Beijing ceremonial was NOT weirdly sinister. Let me explain? When I used that phrase I was quoting a user below who I thought had hit upon something important. The Beijing Olympics was brilliant and spectacular and perfectly choreographed. It used many thousands of precisely trained participants to create a work of art. In this was it was better than London and than any other ceremony, ever. It will never be forgotton.

No, ONE journalist from forbes called it the worst, but when he watched it on the bbc, not the crappy amatuerish nbc, he had to re write his article! London's was very innovative in that it was cinematic, rather than the usual format and it is critically acclaimed by most press and expected to be the most influential of all ceremonies.

China has always been a collectivism culture, it'snever individualistic. I'm Chinese, a volunteer in 2008 in my hometown. I bet you could ask any one of those participants they would proudly say "look, I was part of that!!" many were willing soldiers from across China, I would even sign up if I was up to par. group performances is always what is on Chinese stages. London and China has diff cultures, I enjoyed London as I enjoyed Beijing. display of 5000yrs of culture can never by sinister.

Android - Mandarin is the most spoken native tongue. There are more native Spanish speakers than English, but English is the world language a sizeable percentage of the Chinese etc speak English. That is thanks to, not as many people believe, the Americans but the industrial revolution that started in England in the early to mid 19C..as was showcased in the opening of London 2012.

i kno you guys only have Rembitiko (which I adore) but just please take into consideration that music, particuarly pop music as the world knows it is part of Britain's history now - which is why was covered. I think you maybe don't see it the way we do as Greek music is not what British music was/is but Britain is very proud of its music heritage - that is why music was given such a prominent part in the proceedings. The Beatles, Stones, Clash, Pistols, New Order, Happy Mondays.Need i say more?

London in my opinion still did quite a faboulous job on the opening there just say that then !! and I'm sorry YOU started it by the way the answer is simple if you don't like it don't watch it do one or bugger off if you like and look at something you do like !!!

So I think London did an ok job. I liked seeing how we have all progressed. However, it lacked creativity and originality. Bejiing was more breathtaking and it wow'd the audience even at home. I'm pretty sure those who were at London watching this were amazed. However the excitement somewhat failed to reach to the other side of use on our televisions. Whereas Bejiing left alot of us amazed and thrilled. To me, Bejiing's opening ceremony was so doubt better.

That collective work of art was not in any way aggressive or offensive. It was beautiful and in reality all participants were enthusiastic volunteers. BUT: the ceremony seemed to say who China is as a nation. The effect was 'muscular', with great numbers. It was dark and fiery. The people moved with machine-like precision so that, although all were actually volunteers, it seemed to express China's authoritarian nature. And also...
@lolozai9112 жыл бұрын
Lol. Try watching the entire Beijing opening from start till the end. The fireworks was good, but what really surprised the entire world is the strict choreography of thousands and thousands of men and women performing with superb accuracy. Well the people who guessed that London's would be warm and full of heart were right. And Beijing's was weirdly sinister. The UK's was a monument to individualism and public spirit. All the performers were unpaid volunteers, coming together, being different individually but creating a pattern, a one-ness, from that difference. London knew it could never compete the new standard for 'wow!' set by Beijing (who could?), so it went for something different.

Firstly, if you are going to talk in English learn to use it correctly, and secondly, Beijing was just a very expensive firework display. London had meaning to it. The ceremony explored Britain's vast history showing the world how we have come to be. So I think that you need to shut up and realise that the we, the British are not in denial, we are just proud of what we have achieved!

Let me tell you why no country will ever beat that (apart from perhaps Qatar when they get it). No country will ever spend as much as China. It cost a reported $100 million (!!!) and some put it much higher. Any country can do an amazing ceremony with that amount of money to spend! London will be spending about that amount for the 4 ceremonies in total! (opening and closing of the olympics and para olympics). The London ceremony will have more humour and heart and more of a story to it.
@lolozai9112 жыл бұрын
Not trying to be sound sarcastic here, but first of all, I am a Malaysian, I know what my country is capable of and what not. I know we do have some decent manufacturing capabilities, but its no where near China, and by the way, we are not famous for manufacturing electronics.
@CBfrmcardiff12 жыл бұрын
There's no reason why an Opening Ceremony should be about a country's history. In this case, it was about an identity, a national story, including culture. Music is part of culture. I thought it had a wonderful feel-good atmosphere. It was popular enough that in the UK the BBC showed the whole ceremony a second time! Personally, I'm just glad it wasn't a complete fiasco.

to be fair though the London ceremony probably couldn't have been better without losing the entire point of the ceremony. The london ceremony was about all of our generations more recently because it's more important to us, whereas the Beijing ceremony was based on their culture, which to be fair leaves them with much more content to use.
@geniousboyGR12 жыл бұрын
Maybe we're too hard at our critic against the British: it was not easy for them to make a ceremony of the quality and the easthetics of Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, it's just that their history is not as long and rich.

After watching all year around movies with high tech effects i am not that impressed with a high tech ceremony , i think that Athens 2004 was the Best opening ceremony ever . With many real effects like water and real people acting as statues demonstrating Greek history . The ceremony had a real touch of humanity watch it (the full version) and you have to accept this. Before the 2004 ceremony i was saying that would be the worst ceremony ever but i am happy that i was wrong!!! Go London 2012!
