Their first ever olympic. 16 years has passed us by. London, Rio De Jeneiro, Tokyo and Paris; we come to realize that 8/8/ 2008 opening ceremony in Beijing is the best ever. No debate needed. the "wrong tempo" is caused by the time it takes for sound to travel. so the sound from the audience and the sound from the drums reach the camera at different times.

As a student volunteer, i had the honor to participate all the process of Beijing 2008 Olympic. I was there for the opening ceremony, and my classmates and I were so moved that we cried together. I was in charge of traffic control at the basketball arena throughout the basketball game and got to meet all the big international players in person. Looking back on it all now, I am so blessed.

A someone who used to do military drills, coordinating a few hundred people already required a ton of training. The fact that they've somehow managed to get over 2000 people to line up so perfectly in their movements is amazing. This takes incredible discipline and practice.

I am still getting goosebumps from watching this. I lived in China then and I remember we all watched this in a rooftop bar on a big screen. Everyone, locals and foreigners stood up with respect. @@ent.8979 I once went to see an off Broadway performance of Stomp (which is a very rhythmically based performance. Look it up if you've never heard of it, it's a wild experience live.) And they tried to get the crowd to participate by doing a follow my lead clap and the poor audience couldn't even maintain a steady clap. They kept trying easier variations but the crowd just couldn't do even a simple 1-2--3-4 so they eventually just gave up and moved on to the next bit but it was so painful to experience. The performer looked dumbfounded. 🤣 I guess some people just don't have the rhythm. Lol

cuz all 2008 of them are in military. before Xi took the office, PLA has a separate branch that doing dance and large scale performance, they also trained singers.

-give 2008 people the same drum demonstration. (be it in internet or via video clip) -let them practice for like a 1 or 2 months i guess -in 2 or 1 week before the event let them go in groups (in each group there should be a guide so others will follow and let the 2008 adapt and be comfortable with numbers) -there will be a the big stage rehearsal checking all mics lights and etc

I remember how upset I was for missing this when it was originally aired. Back then, you couldn't find any recordings of it online. Finally, enough time has passed where NBC will finally allow those of us who missed it to see what all the fuss was about. Even 13 years later, it lives up to the hype.
