Love this guy's playing! And I love it even more when people knock him down when he plays stuff like this because little do the realize he probably only practiced it a tiny bit. He can basically play whatever he wants whenever he wants!

That’s because he substitutes fast scale runs and arpegiation for melodic phrasing, bends, etc. , and so he can play many songs w/o knowing them well. Guitarists like Paul are numerous ( yawn...) and similar in their above mentioned approaches. SRV has the definitive interpretation of this song.

He played it right! No copying, just using the comp. as a general outline INDIVIDUALISTICALLY, RATHER THAN REPRO, RETRO, NOTE FOR NOTE, OR WITHOUT EMBELLISHMENT. Playing a piece by Hendrix should bring out, not suppress or deny the uniqueness of a musician's creative and expressive, as well as technical features. Amazing job. Very playful!!! 👍😎

Been following Paul since Racer X and this sounds exactly what I thought it would sound like before I clicked on the video. A wonderful Hendrix tune infused with Paul's own style and personality. Anyone coming here for a spot on Hendrix version will be disappointed.

Paul Gilbert once again substitutes lots of fast single note runs for melodic phrasing, and demonstrates why he is like other shred-clones. I got to witness SRV’s tour de force interpretation of this several x in live performances up close, you could see the sweat drip off of him, as he worked those heavy gauge, high action strings. After that, even Joni Hendrix’ version pales.

To me this lacks those little pauses ..a monument in time... just enough to make you feel what the writer of the song was saying, (JIMI) To me any guitarist of 3/4 years could hack the song in the same fashion. Not touching my soul. Not here>
