Paul Gilbert is technical monster on a guitar. There isn't a chord or scale that he can't play or recall from memory. But, when it comes to feel, he can't let go of the technique. Still, he's one of the best guitar players of our generation.

Not sure. It didn't sound like he had any different efx pedals set up with it. Maybe it was at a slightly more comfortable position for him to play that run.

That's why Stevie Ray Vaughan, when he covered it didn't sing. He knew he couldn't capture the magic. When Derek and the Dominoes covered it, they played it in a totally different key and made it sound like a funeral song. So, I agree with you, some songs are just not meant to be played. Hendrix's music is near impossible to get right. 99.9% of the best musicians in the world can't nail a Hendrix song. It's all in the tuning, and the fact that his guitar was upside down; he used a right handed guitar and had it strung up left handed. So, techincally his pick ups picked up the sound backwards. His vibrato and phrasing can't be copied. And he controlled feedback in such a way it became an instrument all by itself. He used feed back and wah wah pedals to compose his music only the way he could. The reason no-one can touch Jimi Hendrix is because Hendrix is Hendrix, yet everyone trys to play his music because they want a piece of him. But as Neil Young once said, "There's no one in the same building as that guy." Les Paul said when he first heard Hendrix he thought "He was crazy." It doesn't get any better than Jimi Hendrix, but I'll give Gilbert credit for trying.
@_azu74 жыл бұрын
@@KingKull1971 You do realize that paul Gilbert was playing those shits in 18years of age which hendrix could never learn in his entire lifespan , not even in 9 lives would he ever have such technical abilities or extremely complex composition. Gilbert grew influenced by 60spop 70srock too, and van halen and kiss here and there , but look at him today. He's like Hendrix to the power 9000000. Hendrix was the start , as he was an early man that doesnt make him 'not sloppy' tho. I still love hendrix and thank him for the rise of many rock and roll legends later on, hes a legend but Paul Gilbert is more than great and legendary for his time. He string skipped arpeggios of length nobody could ever do , he wrote craziest shit like scarified . He was playing 22NPs batshit solos at 17 , 16 , 15 years of age. He won guitar wars at like 18/19' , very fantastic beginning just killing players one by one. People like Satriani sayin he envies gilbert and like Petrucci the literal killer of metal guitar playing has literally bowed to gilbert onstage because of his improvisation. Its like there were some light piano players , singers and composers even before beethoven that is for sure, but are they any close to beeth in skill?! its similar. Ya cant just disregard and disrespect legendary ass players just because they were born after. and gilbert is such a fuckin god like man he says he likes hendrix just because of his sheer imperfection and organic feel just unparaelled kind of touch in the guitar for that time.
@KingKull19714 жыл бұрын
@@_azu7 I never said Gilbert wasn't a great guitarist, as a matter of fact I prefer him over Steve Vai, Satriani and most shredders. Gilbert always incorporates the blues in his playing, which makes it special. But when it comes to Jimi Hendrix, he can't be touched. Jimi was unique because of who he was, and that came out in every note that he played. People like you never understand that every musicians has their own vibe. Some of them can be copied or reinterpret successfully. Hendrix is just one of a kind, in a league of his own, he's the best at it. I'm not knocking Gilbert, but Hendrix is on a spiritual level where no-one else can go and pull it off.
