I’ve never had SO many great compliments of anything I’ve ever baked like this recipe. It’s just the perfect recipe where none of the ingredients are really overwhelming! Making it tonight for Valentine’s Day!

Oh John, at least you end up remembering the sugar. I will forever be reminded by my little brother about the one Thanksgiving when I decided to make the pumpkin pie from scratch, roasting the sugar pumpkin, making the crust and designing autumnal leaves for the pie edge. I checked the pie 30 mins in to make sure the crust was not over baking, covered it with foil, then turning around to see the measured out sugar sitting on the counter! It looked amazing but tasted terrible. I remember my little brother, insistent on trying it, sprinkling sugar over his slice, it didn't help. To this day, the Thanksgiving slogan is "...and remember the sugar!"

I can certainly relate! My big goof up (not with pumpkin pie) was with a 2 layered cake I was supposed to bring for a cake walk game for a Halloween carnival for our jr. high. I made the cake, it was fine. Then... I put the frosting on, and forgot to frost between the 2 layers! I don't know what alerted me to that; but I was horrified! My dad was home that day from work, and he came up with a plan. He said to go ahead and take it anyway! He said he would finish frosting it on top, and put a decoration on it. He said it could be a little Halloween prank! So I did; it wouldn't have hurt anyone anyway. No one knew who brought it, and I'll never know who won it, or what they thought of it! I still remember it 55 years later!

I simply LOVE how you show you also sometimes screw up. For many people like me it is really encouraging to try recipes again and not going into an emotional spiral of "everyone-can-bake-accept-me-I'm-a-screw-up!" And seeing you not making a huge deal out of it is even more heartwarming, because it makes me see someone else's coping mechanism and helps me not to panic. Thank you for being you :)
