I am so touched is the most sensitive video about renovation I've seen, I am a self learning handyman, and do most of my own repairs at home, and my mexican colonial home of my mother from the seventies, and have "healed" big part of mexican bricks of her house, by crafting the surface of them, one, by one, and seen that the owner and worker, respected the old wall, instead of just tearing it out refoundating it. I loved!!!

Just know that cement mortar is hard, and doesn't breathe or give a little like lime mortar. This wall was not that thick so there might not be a problem. Really important to take into consideration soil type, and that long ago cement wasn't used like it is today. Having a tile roof means lots of weight. That little foundation they did in front of the wall can trap moisture, though I did see a pipe with drainage in mind. Talk to a good master.

Happy New Year! I am in Ohio right on the banks of the Olentangy river in Historic part of town. My home is a 1850 blue lime stone and river rock foundation. I have been re doing my entire basement. It is pretty satisfying work I must say.

Good job amazing skills. But for stone work it's always better to work with lime and not cement that will degrade the stone over time and will need fixing again in a few years.

Bel lavoro, peccato che la malta sia totalmente sbagliata. All'epoca di costruzione di quella casa non si usavano cementi Portland. Utilizzando un cemento Pozzolanico mescolato con grassello di calce avreste potuto ricreare la tonalità della calce di allettamento originaria pur migliorandone le prestazioni. In alternativa si vendono malte preconfezionate da restauro in tutte le tonalità.

I am thoroughly impressed at not just the craftsmanship, but also the speed at which they repair the building in a little over 10 minutes. Must have been an enormous amount of coffee consumed by those workers.

Nice work, in tuscany we had to do it many times on ancient buildings, using two different kinds of mortar, inside the wall cement mortar gives more strenght ,but the last inch on sight of the wall is finished with lime mortar, more similar to the old one used in the past centuries. Modern mortars are more fast to dry and in strenght, but they has different colour respect the old ones.

That cement you so carefully laid is going to bring your house down. Natural weathering of a wall , in order to stay stable is for the stones and the mortar to erode together. That cement will never erode, and being hydroscopic it will suck poisture out of the air and tranfer it to the stone. Being limestone it will effectively melt.

Die hätten gut daran getan einen Kalksand-Mörtel zu verwenden, wie ihre Vorfahren. Ich verstehauch nicht, warum sie die alte Dachkonstruktion abgerissen haben, die noch völlig intakt war. Ja, die Eichenbalken waren etwas krumm gewachsen und grau geworden durch das Alter aber die Balken hätten noch einmal 100 Jahre gehalten.

C'est très beau (sauf le choix des tuiles très laides) mais l'utilisation de ciment dans le bâti ancien est toujours une source de problèmes. J'espère donc que le liant comprenait de la chaux...

Come principio, va bene. Però, il muro vecchio, dove si unisce con il muro nuovo e con il cemento, bisogna lavarlo, perché è pieno di polvere, cosi non attaccano i due muri. Non si uniscono. Abbiamo due muri separati. Abbiamo il muro vecchio che sta per i fatti suoi, e il muro nuovo staccato da quello vecchio. Invece, se si lava il muro vecchio, allora anche i due muri diventano un muro unico e solido perché il cemento li unisce.
