Amazing RESTORATION of a TEAL PAINTED Mid-Century Coffee Table

I found this teal painted Mid-Century Beaucraft coffee table on the Facebook Marketplace and knew it needed a restoration. In this video I will do my best to remove the teal paint from the surface and restore the finish to its original look. This is easily my favorite restoration project yet.

I absolutely love how you took it apart and sanded every inch of this piece. At the end it was like a piece straight off the showroom floor. Beautiful job! The only thing I didn't care for was the stain color. I tend to avoid anything with even a hint of an orangey tone.

It looks like Burmese teak. I would have used a finish of half raw linseed oil and half mineral spirits. I have a Hans Olsen roundette dining set and that's how I'm refinishing it.

Nice work, nice work. Wood appears to be teak. Very common on MCM, especially Danish Modern pieces.

Hey man if you are going to do a ton of sanding in your new work space you can hookup a shop vac to your sander. It is a bit annoying to move around and a bit annoying to listen to BUT keeps the rest of your work space much cleaner. Great video and great work.

Wow, beautiful job! I have this same coffee table, handed down from my parents - purchased in Canada sometime in the 60’s. Mine has never been painted or refinished, and is about the same colour as yours, so good job on the stain choice! I think my parents said ours was teak veneer, but yours may be a different wood. Or the top could be teak veneer, and the base something else. Mine unfortunately has some water damage on the top, and I started watching furniture flipping channels to see how I could fix it up myself. So thank you for posting this video - this piece is exactly what I wanted to see refinished!😁

Paint Stripping: Just as a FWIW, and this is from experience in paint stripping something that was getting paint put back (windows on a 1930's house), but look into IR heaters. I found a DIY page with links to the pieces and built it for (I think, it's been a decade now) about $200... you can buy them ready to use for about $500. It meant the difference between multiple passes with carbide scrapers and sanding to just 1 with the heater and a putty knife, the paint would come off in sheets AND it doesn't damage the wood beneath. Just a thought, no idea how well it'd work on a veneer.
