The handles I made for this dresser was an attempt to turn a waterfall dresser into something more modern, but I stared at the final product for a while questioning how it looked. I'm curious of your honest thoughts on them; should I have kept the original handles? :o --- Go to tryfum.com/MODERNMAKOVERS and use code MODERNMAKOVERS to save an additional 10%

As soon as you rolled the dresser into view, I was hoping you'd change the handles. They were way too far apart and ugly. Your treatment was perfect. Also, the beading had to go. Fantastic work as always, you might be my new favourite furniture restorer. Looking forward to your next video.

In my opinion the original handles looked better with the dresser. The new ones are great too, but to large and it hides the beatiful grain pattern to much

I loved the handles. However, I think they may be too dark? I wonder what they would've looked like stained a couple shades lighter? It would not stop me from enjoying this in my home, though. I watch a lot of furniture restoration videos here on KZbin, and in my opinion, you are the best! Period.

The 1920s, 30s and 40s are my favorite styles. Won’t lie, it was painful to see the pulls, trim and bottom silhouette removed. I do restoration and stay true to original because that’s my preference. Everyone has their own vision of what they love. It’s still a beautiful piece and if it makes you smile, that’s all that matters. Enjoy!🎉

When you first started sanding the trim, I questioned the idea but love the choice now. It is easy to lament the decision made by another when reworking a piece to make it more modern, but it’s how things were done throughout history. Home facades were built and removed, gowns and jackets reworked to current fashion, paintings having things retouched are all examples well documented, and furniture pieces as well. I find the work that you’re doing without fault.

For myself, I still remember when someone mentioned to Antiques Roadshow that they'd tried to sand off a decoration, and was told that if they'd gotten it off, it would have removed a lot of value from a very old little table. (the table was 1700s make, valued at $400k USD at the time) Make sure you know what you have before committing to something like that!

I did like the old handles, but the new ones give it such a fresh modern look, and I like the contrasting dark stain on them as well. Since you preserved the original beautiful veneer woodgrain with the oil application, I think any grandma would be delighted if she could see it now! As to the ornate trim, that stuff is hard to clean & refinish evenly, so I think the sanding was the right call for you since this is a hybrid update/restoration.
