Built in 1831-1834 for David and Mary Weeks, Shadows-on-the-Teche is a historic house and garden on the Bayou Teche. Most homes of this era faced the bayou since water was the primary method of transportation. In this case, the rear of Shadows-on-the-Teche faced the Bayou. Complete family history and plantation records exist today due to the fact that only one family has resided here since 1834. This sequence was shot in January 2000.

Grew up in New Iberia many years back. It was an old plantation home. Be it a mansion, home, whatever else you might want to call it. It's very rich in heritage and tradition in the far south and it's been well maintained through the years. It's a popular tourist destination and I would love to travel back to LA. someday just to visit it again. It's well worth your time to go see it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Stephanie. I appreciate your detailed comment. I would definitely go back also and spend more time. I am also thankful I purchased a book about the family. I re-read it every couple of years. Dave.

@greendaygirl09 I am the same way. We all need to set some time aside and travel around our own neighborhoods. Maybe a staycation where you take day trips to area attractions? I find it fascinating to explore and uncover the way things were in another time and place. This part of Louisiana was awesome! Thanks for watching my video and commenting.

Now is a good time to explore your family roots. Maybe lookup their former home address? It is fun to explore, especially when you can relate due to family ties. Have fun! Dave in Montana.

By "one of the first homes", I hope you mean one of the first plantation homes. Spaniards and Cajuns lived there a hell of a long time before 1830

The Spanish brought over Moorish slaves as early as the 1470's. Some references say earlier. Pretty sure Florida was the first area but something to think about. When did Columbus bring his murdering, rapist ass over here again? 1492. Yep. 🖕🏿

Very beautiful! Loved the background music. It added kind of a sadness almost as if someone was longing for the long ago time to return to the house and grounds. Thanks for sharing.

Roberta, many thanks for viewing and commenting on my video. I appreciate it. I spend extra time to locate just the right music to help set the scene. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. In this case the tone of the music is a bit sad, just like you said. If these walls could only talk and ask for the original owners back! Many thanks again for your comment. Dave. PS: I need to return to this location and capture high-definition video. Unfortunately, HD was not available in January 2000.

davidegg22 , I know you know about the Tabasco product at Avery Island, etc. My great grandfather was a close friend and employee of Edmund Mclhenney and we have photos of them on a moose hunt up in Montana, Dave ! I'm not into killing moose but it was in their day; not mine !... LoL 😁

Mae M I am also not a hunter like you. I would rather shoot (capture) with the lens of my cameras! We didn’t have time to stop at Avery Island and kick myself for not budgeting more time. I purchased a book about the island at one of the gift shops down the road. I will pull the book out of my library and read it again. Thanks again for adding your connections. A special place for sure. Dave.

Fun fact. Growing up in New Iberia when you are a kid the school takes you on a trip to see the house. Inside is stunning. They have a whole bunch of stuff they used to use back in those day. They have little actors that dress up and in every section they wld share a fact about the house or owners. I wld love to go back now as an adult

Awesome! I wish I could have captured video of the interior but they said "for security reasons" we couldn't. What fun it must have been to see people in period dress explaining little known facts. Maybe a trip back to New Iberia is in your future plans? Thanks for viewing and sharing your experience. Dave.
