It is.... you should definitely try it. Most indian percussion instruments are to be played directly by hand, connecting you to the instrument completely.

This instrument is a another version of Parai or Dappu . But Dalits who play Parai would never be invited into Darbar but at the same time a Kanjira is glorified and accommodated. Amazing how oppressive framework is up and well!
