What a wonderful scenic journey. The tracks are so well laid , that makes for a smooth ride. What surprised me was the total absence of people anywhere about and only a sprinkling at the spotlessly clean stations. Just love your country and your people; warm and friendly Take care

Great trip. The air must smell great there. Clear, cool, clean, fresh mountain air that smells of pine trees and purity. Cold clear water. Beautiful Mountains and uncluttered towns of noise, traffic and crowds of people. Peaceful and quiet.

Not as expensive as you'd think. I just went to the F1 race in Austria and asides from the fact that the general admission weekend tickets are cheap as hell there (about €70 if you buy 6 months before the event), my train tickets across country from Salzburg to the Knittelfeld train station (near the Red Bull ring) were €14 each way when I booked 6 months in advance. My return plane ticket from the UK was about £70 and airbnb prices in Austria can be as cheap as anywhere else too. I paid about £20 per night. I used the trains for 2 days and the views are unbelievable. Plan ahead and you can have a very cheap holiday in Austria.

I've travelled this route several times over the years from 1952 until my last trip in 2014, from London to Villach. This section has always been my favourite but I could never see it in its full glory from the carriage windows. So this video has at last given me the full view of the mountains and valleys (also the station bar at Spittal Millstattersee and my first experience of drinking to much beer). It will be part of my memories.

In Taxenbach . 👍🚆🚈🚆😍🚡📷📸

Thanks! It's the frequency from the current converter (PWM) going up. The ingeneurs from Siemens built in an "easter egg" making it play a musical scale when departing. In the beginning also other melodies were chooseable by the driver, but they were removed after a short time.

I did this route by bicycle in '65 with an American Youth Hosteling group The European Swing. We saw the Marionettes do Don Giovanni, took the tour of the salt mines in Hallein, and took a day's ride to the Hoherwerfen Castle where we stayed, visiting the ice caves. We cycled to Zell Am See the next day. The train looks so much less strenuous between Salzburg and Werfen. The beer was awfully good along the whole route. The opening scenes of the Sound of Music were shot near Werfen if I'm not mistaken.

Okay, what you mean is the onboard voice. "AFB" (you can hear it in the very first seconds) is played, when the "Automatic Drive and Brake System" is turned on or off. (It Holds the speed constant) "Zugbeefinlussung" is played, when the PZB is active, which controls the speed of the train when it is nearing a red singal. I hope that's what you meant.
