It is actually fastest way between Innsbruck/Bregenz and rest of Austria, via Rosenheim. It is called ‘German corner’ route (Deutsches Eck) and it is common way ever since these railways were built and an agreement between KuK Monarchy and Kingdom of Bavaria in 1851.

- Unfortunately, this interesting route (Maximiliansbahn) is in parts very desolate and has to be closed again and again for construction work and maintenance; in 2027 there will be a total closure (Salzburg - Rosenheim and Rosenheim - Munich for almost half a year each). During this time the trains will be diverted via the Giselabahn (Salzburg - Bischofshofen - Zell am See - Wörgl) or via Passau. But you can always experience it in the driver's cab at RailRelaxation; it will soon be seen in the other direction too (Kufstein - Rosenheim - Salzburg).

Thanks for the video! A high-speed line would be needed on this route. The travel speeds are slower than in Italy.
@RailRelaxationКүн бұрын
@wyqtor High speed would be nice.
@Sacto1654Күн бұрын
Unfortunately, due to the mountainous terrain in western Austria and southern Germany, that may not be so practical.
@wyqtorКүн бұрын
@@Sacto1654 The track passes just north of the foothills of the Alps, so it's just a bit hilly in some sections, but without the need for long tunnels/viaducts.
@olivermeineke9707Күн бұрын
The route runs through a protected cultural landscape that shall not be spoiled by large-scale engineering structures. Therefore, shorter travel times are to be achieved by extending the route via Mühldorf am Inn - about 50 km north of the existing route.
@wyqtorКүн бұрын
@@olivermeineke9707 Well yeah, I don't think anyone would mind a more northerly route.
