Hi Paul! These key elements will help me catch myself before all of those pesky pickles try to discourage me. I just put away a painting that unfortunately wasn’t finished yet. So many pickles and I started to become unhappy. It was time to take it off the easel and put it away temporarily. After a couple of tears, (it was going to be a Christmas gift) I took a deep breath and decided not to force it to happen. I felt relieved! It just wasn’t meant to be for now. I’m going to paint “Snow Birch” by Bob Ross. It’s a gorgeous painting that is very simple! I’m sure the confidence will return so eventually my pickle painting can be done with a fresh outlook. I’ll keep these five elements and it will be better. Thanks again for your tutorials and paintings. Your work is so inspiring! Have a wonderful week ahead! Art hugs too! 🤗🖌️

Hi Stephanie - ah the nemasis paintings. I've had a few that just beat me no matter how hard I tried. Taking them down and doing something fun is the absolute right thing to do. A year of so laterafter the stress of failure had dulled - I painted painted one after another. It was only when Terri reminded me it was 'those darn paintings' that I recalled the mess I had gotten into. So take heart - when the times right you'll do it without a second look. Big art hugs Paul and fur babies 😃😎

Good evening Paul Instead of black jesso. Could you use liquid black instead seems like it would cut out a step of application to the canvas thanks man for your time...😊
@PaulRansonArt10 ай бұрын
Hi Jeff - its certainly another approach to this painting. I suspect it would make for a very atmosperic scene as the liquid black would tone down the sea to an almost dusk time. Best idea would be to give it a try. Happy painting - Paul 😃😃😎😎

Dear Paul, Great video, I really like the wave. The colors are wonderful and the composition is excellent. I like her tricks with the wave, and I can say that it especially caught my eye. The whole picture has its own wonderful charm. Really wonderful project and wonderful video. Relaxing and interesting as always. A lot has happened this week and I am exhausted, but also excited for the new week. Also, since it's winter, I had to move to my room to take pictures. And I plan to switch to water mixable oil paint, because they don't need thinner. Do you have any tips for painting with them. Anything will help. Advice about a brush or canvas. Everything is helpful. Thank you in advance for your advice and I want to thank you for your hard work. As always, I wish you a pleasant and relaxed week and happy painting.
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Angel - I've used water mixable oils a few time and had great results. Obviously there's no liquid white or clear. So, I used water mixable linseed oil applied super thin for clear and for liquid white I just added a small amount of titanium white directly over the linseed oil on the canvas. Just remember a little oil goes a very long way and its easy to over do it. So I blot off my canvas gently to remove a littof the excess. The rest is all down to experimentation. Have fun and start with something small and easy to paint. Just to get a feel for things. Then increase the size ond complexity once you have things working well. Best wishes -Paul 😃😍😎

Hi Paul, do we need to finish Bob Ross paintings in one seating?
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
Its a good question and the simple answer is no. Due to the constraints of painting and filming I often complete a painting over two or three days. My top tip is to look for break points is a scene like the horizon line. For instance maybe complete the sky on one day then the midground on day two. Then the foreground on day three etc. The challenge comes with things like reflections and shadows. Especially when your using the wet on wet technique as one part will flow into the next section. It takes some practice but as you see Its something I do often. It's also the most common way traditional oil paints are completed so have a try you might find you enjoy the freedom it offers 😃 Happy Holidays - Paul

hi Paul ... your videos are always interesting but it is not easy to reproduce waves passing a little hello from Bergerac
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Corrine - If you can get that shape working for you then your more than half way there. In part 2 I'll take the wave and change the shape and angles to give a different feel to the painting. But it all starts with the shape! Love to Bergerac 😍😎

Do you think using paper palette is better than plastic or wooden one? I am starting with oilpainting and your paper palette is very pleasant to me. I don't know if it's right but my colours tend to dry out on paper. Does it happend to you too? Thank you

Hi - have a look in the description below the video for the list of supplies I use - here's the link for the brand - Reynolds Freezer Paper geni.us/5aHLO Its used for wrapping food for the freezer but its exactly the same plastic coated paper sold in art shops - but at a fraction of the price! Comes on a roll so use what you need. Its been the paper I've used for years - hope this helps 😎😎

@@PaulRansonArt Thank you so much for this tip! :D I have one more question. Do you think baking paper will do as well?
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
I've tried this but the oil sinks in very quickly. Try and get the plastic coated paper it will pay for itself with the cost of lost paint. Plus you can cover the palette with cling film and store in the freezer @@ondrejsupina8052

How do you clean your brushes? How long it takes to dry an oil painting? I painted first time with Bob’s method, struggled little bit, I followed your tips for liquid white, but my tree colors were coming off the canvas , what could be the reason?
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
Hi - I use odourless artist thinners for my brushes ( not white spirits ! ) A painting might be touch dry after a few days. Longer if its cold or the paints very thick. The number one reason why people struggle with trees and bushes is all to do with the thickness of the paint. The underpainting ( dark colours ) must be firm and dry. The highlights need to be slightly thinner. A thin paint will always stick to a thick paint. But, you can sometimes over work the paints till they mix. So try not to go over them - hope this helps 😃😃😎😎

Should waves in a seascape always crash to the left?
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
A very good question. The answer is - paint them anyway you like. I switch between left and right and all the angles in between. One interesting observation I've made over the years is peoples preference for direction based on if they're left or right handed. This is generaly the direction righth handed folk prefer. And flipped 180 deg for left handed. Same with mountains too. 😃😍😎
