Asia and BJ the first time I heard this song was in a piano bar in San Francisco. it was a gay bar and a handsome black guy was at the piano. He played this song. All these years later I remember how beautiful it was. Learning to love yourself really is the greatest love of all.

Original music was written by Michael Masser for the movie "The Greatest" staring Muhammad Ali. The lyrics were written by Linda Creed and in 77 George Benson recorded. But all three versions are great in there own way!

This is a wonderful song that reminds me of being a teen in the 80s. The musical melody is a rip off though of Gordon Lightfoot's, 'If you could read my mind.' He had actually brought a lawsuit for plagiarism but later dropped it because he felt it was having a negative effect on Houston and he knew it wasn't her fault and she wasn't named in the lawsuit.

Whitney Housten & Mariah Carey both have some of the most beautiful voices in the world, so it's hard to say who's the best, although songs like this show that Whitney puts even more heart and emotion into it, which then tips the scales. Everybody likes Whitney doing this, so do I but I actually prefer the original by George Benson from the film. The fact that my second and third favourite songs by Whitney are both covers is slightly disappointing even though she does a fantastic job on them both I already knew both this and I Will Always Love You by their original artists from movies I really liked. It would be nice if she'd had someone writing this calibre of material for her that I didn't already think of as somebody elses, instead Wanna Dance with Somebody is my favourite Whitney song;.please don't tell me it's a cover

It's not, it's original to her, but just for your information she didn't cover Dolly on IWALY. David Foster heard Linda Ronstadt's 1975 recording of the song IWALY and they used that as the template for their recording. The arrangement is the same as Ronstadt's they just played with the melody line. When Dolly found out they were using Linda's recording as the template for theirs, she called David on the phone to give him the final verse of the song, which Linda did not use in her recording. David had to add another 45 sections to the arrangement of the song.
