What Gordon describes about going against pro wrestlers, is 100%. They are constantly moving and don't let you get solid grips on them. Working with wrestlers will help you improve your BJJ in that field, become more fast and defend takedowns.

I'm a big believer that it is essential to combine wrestling techniques into your submission grappling game (forgive my Prof. Danaher's impression). In my case, Judo and Wrestling helps me excel in that; I just took up BJJ a year ago and I'm really enjoying it thus far. Really looking to solidify my grappling game as there's still a long way to go.

Gordon sloths his way while on his bum, with his advances slapped away at for the better part of 20 minutes, which then takes a turn in favour of Gordon when he wrestles-up from a successful gripping exchange which J'den tried to run from. Gordon ends up belly-to-back from standing, then mat returns his opponent by draping his body to one side of his rear bodylock. Subsequently, Gordon takes the back of his opponent by using the power-half Nelson, which he recently has gained an affinity for. He straightjackets him in addition to a body triangle, then taps J'den with one arm.

It would be Usman vs Burns: Usman will have the initial advantage; once on the mat, Burns will have the advantage. While standing, as an elite wrestler, Usman has a 3-D view of things. He knows instinctively how to find the weakest gravity/balancing point of another person he has hold of & trip him or take him down by force/momentum. Once on the mat, in a mostly 2-D situation, however, Burns's next level BJJ means he'd find a way to outmaneuver even the superior wrestler Usman. BTW, that was why Usman declined to jump on top of Burns, when he lightly knocked Burns to the mat. He simply told Burns to get up. D1 wrestler Michael Chandler, on the other hand, made the wrong decision to jump onto of a next-level BJJ Charles Oliveira. Yes, Chandler hurt Charles by knocking him down. But on the mat, even dazed, Oliveira was able to much more easily outmaneuver the D1 wrestler Chandler, who is very compact and strong. Essentially, through that bad decision to jump on top of a next level BJJ, Chandler gave Oliveira time to recover. That Oliveira wasn't able to find Chandler's neck or arm was of secondary importance. It's the recovery from Chandler's hard punch that was most important for the BJJ guy Oliveira. If Chandler had thought it through, before the fight (in terms of what to do or not to do, in X, Y, or Z situation), he, too, would have done what Usman did: just tell Oliveira, who is the superior BJJ guy, to "get up." He either got up immediately (& still be dazed from the knockdown) or (if he refused to get up, by delaying) the referee would've stopped the fight for TKO reason.

@kiabtoomlauj62493 жыл бұрын
@@paulocarre1 Of course, bro, you're the pro. Whatever you say, bro! You one-liners are way too deep! lol Anyway, as I said, Usman IS an elite wrestler, as is J'den Cox. Gordon Ryan is an elite grappler, as is Burns. Standing, J'den has the edge; on the ground, Gordon has the edge. That is NOT multi-variable calculus; don't pretend to be too smart for your own good. (Hypothesizing how an elite WRESTLER is gonna compete against ground specialist, ON THE MAT, is the IRRELEVANT wondering to start with: of course the elite grappler/BJJ guy, like Gordon Ryan, is going to submit the elite wrestler, like J'den Cox. Why the fuck wonder about it? If an elite wrestler could out maneuver an elite BJJ specialist, rolling on the ground, why the fuck are there schools for BJJ specialists? Again, this is not multi-variable calculus, bro. It's 2nd grade flow charts...)

That is the combination you what if you want to be the best grappler in a fighting situation in the world.. Jaden Cox a national world in Olympic medalist.. Gordon Ryan the best non-gi jiu jitsu player in the world training together they literally could train with just each other the two of them and be the best grapplers in MMA by teaching each other what the other one don't know.. I'm exaggerating but my point is I think you should do wrestling during wrestling season and then maybe in the summer you do jujitsu and MMA.. fall you can play football winter time is wrestling season spring time is baseball... Summertime is MMA stand up and jiu jitsu if you do that from the time you're young you can play football and you can play baseball.. and still find time for MMA jiu jitsu wrestling... When you're young and when you become a teenager if you want to take combat sports more serious than you get rid of baseball get rid of football and just do wrestling and boxing.. and then do MMA and Bjj

@ericcomstock22493 жыл бұрын
Its honnestly getting super annoying that bjj as a sport is trying to monopolize all things grappling. Bjj's main invention is the guard. Alot of submissions come from judo, and leg locks are mostly catch wrestling, with both sports obviously focusing heavily on throws and leg attacks respectively. No gi is mma grappling, and everyone acts like its solely Brazilian jujitsu.

Brazilian jiu jitsu a specific martial art. You can compete in submission grappling competitions without using the Gracie family's specific style of grappling. I thought it was abundantly clear that Bernardo's use of the term "grapplers" in this context referred to submission grapplers. The point is that Gordon Ryan is a highly successful competitive athlete; not just a martial artist with a high rank. The term "catch wrestling" has been around much longer than "Brazilian jiu jitsu", by the way.
