My Gran worked in the munitions factory. Heavy hard work. The sulphur turned the workers skin yellow as it stained it. Thousands a day they were making, crating up and sending out for armament checks, once stamped they were recrated

As he came in a 4 am he almost had a face full of cast iron fryingpan lol! She thought he was a looter! They had been bombed out so she had had to move. Took him hours to find her. Great video you must go back again. No doubt you'll find something to top that!

My Mum lived and survived the blitzes of London. She had told me so many sad yet fascinating stories. Funnily, seeing all the bricks, made me tear up.

This is excellent. I used to go looking for old ww2 stuff around the countryside near maidstone as a kid in the 1970s with an old fieldmaster F33 then a cscope vlftr770d . Had the added bonus of being shown where all the AA BATERRIES and barracks where as well as some ammo dumps by my ww2 vet uncle. Gave my whole collection away to a bloke dressed like General patton at the war and peace show to put in his private museum. Again brilliant video.

And sent to the lines.. Scary times, often the factories went up, and they had to relocate. Once my Gran ended up in an underground factory, with the bombs dropping above them. After my Grandad came home after Dunkirk, he made her change job, not as easy as that sounds as you were allocated your warwork. Because she was a Nurse, she went into the hospitals. It took 6 weeks for the dye to leave her skin. Grandad was lucky when he came home from Dunkirk., she'd received a letter to say he was lost in Action.

Great find! I have a 75 mm brass shell casing from WW 1 which was turned into a piece of trench art. It is embossed with the word “Victory” and the date “11-11-11-1918”. That is for the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year 1918. That was the official end of the war to end all wars. I think someone forgot to tell the rest of the world that...This Sunday on 11-11-11-2018 we will be remembering the 100 anniversary of the armistice...and the nations are ready to go at it again!

@@Sifinds cool video but get a proper army issue shovel not a folding one. As for digging some parts of Thames won't allow you to dig only surface finds or scratch surface normally a written permission from port of London authority will get permission ? How did you get away with digging ? As for shell early shells didn't always go off came down kids used to mess with em. Got blown up so bonzo fuse was fitted. Its a proximity fuse clockwork too I has a cool collection in my museum of shrapnel picked up during war by kids now in their 70s if you likes history I recommended you visit our museum at coal house fort east Tilbury and bay museum on canvey island both in Essex. 👍🐺🐾:-)

Random Fox Hi mate. I’ve got a new spade now thanks. Also I’m a member of The Thames Mudlarks Society and I have permission to dig to 1.2 metres if I wish. Have you ever found interesting by Coalhouse. I’ve had a little look round there but detecting isn’t permitted round there. I’ve also visited the fort on one of the open days. It’s very cool!
