“Glory-Arse morning” I laughed way to much when you said that! Hahaha, love the video Robbie!! My grandparents used to do the soap and stocking technique for yabbing I’ve never done it, but they’d throw a bar of soap in a stocking and have the stocking attached to some string and apparently it caught them. Never done it myself but it seems like it could be an interesting vid
@adamholden40505 жыл бұрын
When I was a kid I put the meat in a bit of stocking so their claws would get hooked and I could put a few stones in it as well to way it down. Good work mate You’ve inspired me to go yabbying now Have 2 of these 👍🏻👍🏻

Hi Adam thanks so much mate. Good much with the yabbying.

Two points Robbie. 1. Get in the water beside the incoming bait. 2. Place the net BEHIND the bait so the Yabby does not let go and flip away. You lose too many putting the net in front!!!
@Dogfish636 жыл бұрын
We use the same technique when catching blue crabs in Delaware and Maryland in the salt water and brackish water. We use fatty chicken necks and a weight to hold them down like you said. You have to pull them in quite a bit slower than you showed here. We also use wire box traps that you lower straight down off a pier. The doors close on it as you lift. It's great fun!

Getting older now and have started to use traps more often , as I can't move as quick as I used to. But man , your enthuiasim is awesome to see!! Fishing for crawdad's out of the columbia river , the biggest ones I've caught had claws that measure over 4" long , and from tail to the end of the claws they stretched over the width of a newspaper ( about 14" ). Keep having a blast , protect those females and have fun mate!!

@johnlshilling14463 жыл бұрын
Here's a tip you might like, save the mesh bags that onions or citrus fruit come in. Cut them into 6"- 8" squares. Bundle your meat in the center and tie your line around the top. Your bait will last much, much longer. Or get your butcher to locate beef or pork spleens. They're like a liver mated with a sponge and wrapped the baby in a tough membrane. Every time a yabbie pinches or bites, fresh blood is released. A little chunk will last all day and night! Even if you have to buy bulk, you can freeze it and have it all year long.

@@robbiefishing I used them growing up for trout and Kokanee (landlocked sockeye and coho salmons) in what we call a Wickiup Sandwich, thread half a worm on hook, add smallest piece of Abbie meat that will stay on the hook, then cover hook point with a piece or two of white corn or a red salmon egg. Just make sure the hook is hidden for the Kokanee, trout don’t seem to be quite as finicky.

From what I could see that dam didn't look like eating them would be that good for ya. Looked like blue green algae on the down wind side. It had no plant life in it. Not good signs for eating hey. Could make ya crook mate. Just a heads up. But a family of wood ducks were close by and Yabbies of all size and of plenty. No plants and that green and the thickness of the water. Was my concern. Love you videos mate. Keep it up 👌💪🎣
