What you did with your line is called a working turn. It allows you to shorten or lengthen a line and use the fiction of the line on the cleat as a brake. It takes a lot less strength to control the line using a working turn.

@@karlstreed3698 - we never knew it had a name - it just made sense. Thanks for putting a name to it. Now in the future we can use the proper terminology!

We live in Oklahoma and are planning our great loop for about 5 years from now. Really can't explain my excitement and confusion to see this video linking them together!

@@charliewynn3210 😂😂 We completely understand. Most boaters aren’t aware that you can go into Oklahoma much less what to do once you are there. It is truly The Forgotten Great Loop Side Trip. 😉 That is one of the reasons we decided to try it. We don’t know the answers either but intend to find out. Have you already purchased your looper boat?

Agree 100% just stumbled across it tonight. We live on Lake Oologah and are planning to do the loop ourselves from Oklahoma.

I've been through that lock and remember how nervous I got the first time when I watched the door open to fill the lock. Also remember the turbulence, hated it!

@@JohnDoe-gj8pm - there is a fair amount of turbulence in there. Big difference between it and the big locks up in the rivers - as you pointed out, that one floods or drains the chamber by opening the doors - up in the river system the have pipes coming up out of the floor that do it - the doors stay closed until you are at proper level - it seems to allow them to raise and lower a LOT faster

@@stephengarcille4844 - We tried to get reservations at Applegate on the Kerr Resevoir for a week or two but couldn’t get a definite answer out of them. We will definitely stay at least a night or two at Three Forks when we go north from Kerr.

Been there. My wife and I made it through every lock on the Erie Canal no problem, but the Federal Lock in Troy NY was a horror show and my wife almost let go of the rope from the lock wall. Very scary.
