We misspoke about the IR emitter. It's meant to blast a signal out to compatible devices like set-top boxes, soundbars, receivers, etc. This lets you voice control them all through Alexa so you can do a number of tasks hands-free like changing volume, power on/off, or set up full routines so a single voice command turns on the entire home theater system.

Combined with his 2 ring doorbells and the security cameras that he's going to set up, he's going to have full view and control of the exterior of his house and full control on the interior as well. Another thing he did was run full home ethernet to each room in the house. All of the TVs are on it as well as his office equipment and all of his security cameras as well. They are power-over-ethernet. Needless to say, it is pretty cool to walk around the house and tell Alexa to do things.

A "small" note on that privacy part with the microphone kill switch at 11:25 : If a "physical switch" creates a software-popup, it ist most likely NOT a physical switch. Instead, it is likely just a slideable soft-button. The state of the button is read by the software, which then can act differently depending on the state of that switch. So you are still relying on the software not to spy on you, once you flip that switch. But once you buy a TV from Amazon, you are pretty much lost anyway in that regard.

One thing I would love tv reviews to include (and this goes for ANYBODY reviewing a tv) is if you can set the tv to turn on and go right to an input or to go to the last input. I do not want a TV where I have to select an option on the TV's remote before I transition to the remote for the device I want to use (Cable box, Fire Stick, Xbox, etc....). This would also be good for people like me who use HDMI switchers because we have too many devices hooked up. My current TV has my sound bar on HDMI1 and on HDMI 2 is the switch with three consoles, BluRay player, wireless HDMI adapter and Fire Cube so I have no interest in ever touching the TV's remote unless it is to change a menu option.

Also would be nice to know how long it takes to start up. Every TV I ever owned started really quickly, like 'if they had had splash screens (they didn't) you wouldn't have had time to see them'' quickly, but my mother's current one has a noticeable delay before the brand splash screen comes up, and takes most of a minute between hitting the power button and actually showing whatever input it's getting. @@brycedunlap That's why I just use a home theater pc and a projector. As someone who actually owns one of these, I'm going to add my 2 cents: For anyone who hates FireTV - you're wrong. Period. You don't like Amazon... fine. But pretending FireTV sucks is completely without merit. The one we have has some pretty bad diagonal flare. Not a game breaker, but definitely not impressive (discussed at 5:40) The color quality for the (discounted) price point is very good compared to what we were accustomed to. The screensaver doesn't work - the tv just powers off. Probably a firmware issue, but not acceptable. When it self-powers off, it completely severs the link to the soundbar. VERY not acceptable. Toshiba has come out with their own version of the 75" Fire TV and I wish I would have waited for that one, as the FIVE Toshiba FireTVs I have (including 4 as 12+ hour-per-day monitors between two households) have been bulletproof. 8:20 - Gaming on my Toshibas is fantastic, not sure why Onmi screwed it up so bad, In conclusion, for the feature/price point ratio, you're not going to beat a FireTV. Amazon is subsidizing them by hundreds of dollars, so unless you're a hater, there's no reason not to take advantage... but I'm far from sold on the Omni. It might have better picture than the Toshiba, but Toshiba's been doing this for 5 years, and got the bugs worked out.

Good color accuracy in Movie mode for SDR content and acceptable input lag only in game mode? Even without Nicholas's postscript insert I'd suspect this is a TCL TV at its heart. That's pretty much exactly the verdict you guys had for their TVs back in the budget TV round-up / price challenge video with James last year. I bought a 43" 4k TCL Roku TV last year, primarily to use as my PC monitor. For the sub-$200 it cost at the time, it's perfectly fine. The 43" Omni TV is listed for $400 right now; I think that's a bit much for what it has to offer. At the very least, it shouldn't throw ads in your face like a $20 Fire tablet.

I disagree with there being ANY reason to buy it for personal use. Most TV's that you referenced like the Vizio MQ6 are on sale, even the MQ7 is on sale for $100 less than the Amazon TV and it's just an outright better TV that has better software, better features, more dynamic coloring, and better response times. Even Samsung has their Crystal UHD TV line up that's a bit cheaper and performs better than it in both software and color dynamics. Some of the software features are nice for enterprise or office use, like the ability to join zoom calls in it. Throw one of these in a conference room once they're fully supported and they're quite competitive given it's feature set not being too high or too low. For normal every day use though, just stick with Vizio, Samsung, LG, or TCL.

I think the most absurd statement made in this video is that a Kirkland branded gaming pc or monitor could exist and somehow be worse than this. Well for one, Kirkland would probably be a rebrand of a popular company or based off of an already popular brand like LG or HP rather than some (mostly) unknown company. And secondly, wouldn't they be directly competing against themselves(Costco) off of already low prices they set themselves rather than trying to set a new low benchmark standard like amazon is doing with this TV?

There's no difference between what Costco does with Kirkland and what AmazonBasics does, other than Kirkland has a better quality reputation. I recently helped a friend buy a new budget TV. I ended up pointing him to a Best Buy (Insignia) Fire TV. A month in and I am advising him to return it and get a ROKU TV. He's had the sound stop working numerous times and the only fix is to reboot Fire TV. Problem is, Fire TV has no reboot menu item so reboot means unplug.

2:25 That is definitely not a SPDIF input. It's glowing red so it's an output. And it says "IR emitter", so sure it's for an IR receiver? Sound to me like an option to make it send IR to another device.

You really need to make an updated amazon basics video. Edit: I mean, after you cover sound scoops of course.

Probably tTrue in case of LMG & a lot of the other mainstream channels but a terrible for rest i.e. majority of the videos and the whole KZbin platform as a whole. I mean, take example of YT Rewind. THE MOST DISLIKED VIDEO OF ALL TIME is suddenly an extremely well liked video with MILLIONS of likes.

@@user-bm9fo5kr1l I agree. This is a part of a weird "no negative feedback" culture change.

@@MONDAY______ I have it, your computer is defective if you do not have it. Accounts can choose to display the count or not but the button is enabled.

Linus: literally 40% of the Home screen is taken up by ads. Fire TV/Stick users, or literally anyone who has properly fallen victim of a freemium business model: First time?

A lot of people say "You can get a better TV for $100 or $200 more". But they don't realize that a big appeal for these TVs is that Amazon lets you do payment plans. It would take me forever to save up $1,000 but I can get this $800 Amazon TV right NOW for $50 a month.
