I have an Echo Show 1st gen and am still unimpressed until Alexa assistant becomes more like Google. You can literally ask Google anything and it will answer it. Alexa still tends to say “I don’t know” to a lot of things.

I got my one today. I am impressed with it so far. I think the “premium” is based on its own line up and for 150 quid it’s pretty good.

Yeah, like I said, it packs a lot into £150! And good point about it being premium compared to the in-house range!

Stu, I avoid the problem with the activation word (which can be Alexa, Computer, Echo or Amazon) by using Computer as command word. It’s used less frequently.

I'm really struggling to connect mine with the IKEA tradfri. I don't have a gateway for my IKEA bulbs and plugs, as I was under the impression I didn't need one (am I correct?) When I tried to enable the IKEA skill in Amazon it won't let me as I can't sink the IKEA and the Alexa together. On the IKEA app it wants me to connect a gateway. Is it possible you could do a video please showing a beginner's/dummy guide to connect them and everything you need for it to work? I would be grateful. Thank you Jayne. Xx

Hi I have a question, I have a standalone bluetooth speaker if i connect it to the Echo plus by bluetooth or aux line in/out will mucis play from both devices/speakers? Thanks

The reason it didn't respond quickly to begin with is because it is already downloading updates. It takes about 15 minutes and then it will return to normal response time.

I personally really like the design of the original Echo/Echo Plus to be honest with you, this new one is very attractive, although it does like quite a lot like the HomePod. Do you think it sounds better than the original Echo Plus? I've not heard an original Echo in the flesh before, though I just bought an original Echo Plus the other week, in terms of the sound quality the original Echo Plus is OK, but it doesn't blow me away, it doesn't produce very much mid range sound and I wish it did.

You’re not alone in that opinion- quite a few people prefer the older style! I guess it’s just down to personal taste. In respect to sound, it’s marginally better than the original plus, but don’t expect massive leaps forward in sound quality! The only difference from a sound tech stance is a woofer that’s 0.5inches bigger in the new one.

Very well. The sound quality from the original Echo Plus may not be audiophile grade, but it's more than passable for most people I would think.

Great vid! 👍🙂 May pull the trigger. A year down the line from your review, and it's currently down to 89quid with a Philips wifi light bulb chucked in from Amazon UK. An even more compelling purchase I thing. Paired with the mission battery base for around 45quid and bluetooth functionality, it becomes a very nice portable option, which my sonos ones sadly don't offer ☹....unless I spend 400quid on a sonos move which I'd rather not do.... Only issue could be that Amazon have a 3rd gen plus coming out this year....🤔

Sure, Spain and Mexican accent (if you have an Echo Dot 3 gen, Echo 2 gen or all the new Echo devices) Claro, acento mexicano y español (Si tienes un Echo Dot 3 gen, un Echo 2 gen o todos los nuevos dispositivos Echo)

Can I connect my smart tv to the echo plus and have it play the sound from the tv? and also, can I control the smart tv using the echo plus?

If your smart tv supports Alexa then yes- and yeah you can connect via aux or Bluetooth audio again if your tv supports it.

Yes you can! I stream Apple Music to it that way.

Someone else made a good point, that it’s premium when compared to its own in-house range! Anyway- keep an eye out for the 2.1+Sub review- we shall see how premium is sounds then!

Great review. I have a Sonos One and love the sound on it, but I hate Alexa on it. Very glitchy. Just wonder if this would be a decent replacement. I am no audiophile, but my Sonos does nothing most of the time other than take up space when not used for music. At least I could use this for both Alexa and music. Any thoughts?

I have no interest in the thing's sound quality, I use 'near field studio monitors' and a proper professional set of headphones. I like my sound the way the people who made it wanted it. I use my Echos for news and home control systems. So, when will you be telling people if it'll control Ikea's Tradfri and Hive Heating and Hue and how to do that?
