A piece that’s really important about this router that was glossed over is the HomeKit support. With HomeKit, Alexa, and Google home, when you add a device to the network it gets full access to communicate with all other devices. As a result, the security of your home accessories is only as strong as it’s weakest link. The eero 6 pro is one of only 2 HomeKit enabled routers on the market meaning it adds a firewall on all devices and limits how they can communicate with the network. So as far as your smart home’s security that may be a big sell for some people.

What about roaming performance? How well does the mesh do at switching devices to use the closest and best node? That is my #1 gripe with mesh setup, they don't do seamless roaming well at all.

Does this actually help improve wifi speeds? I've got 900 download with a cable but I can't feasibly have cable from the router to my pc. I've been debating getting one of these as they're on sale to see if I have one of these in my room by my pc and then plug it into my pc via ethernet from the mesh router the speeds will be better (I only get 1/3rd of my download speeds over wifi currently).

It depends. Do you have an "all in one" modem and router from your ISP? If so, then yes you'll need to put it in bridge mode. If you have just a modem then no.

Thanks for the awesome review. I recently switched ISP from Spectrum to Ting (Fiber Optic) which gives mean almost 1Gig into my house. I also have the Eero Pro6 router along with 3 Eero Extenders for my multi-story 2800sqft home but I'm not getting the ultra high speeds and I don't know why? While the speeds have tripled what I was getting with Spectrum, I only getting about 1/3 of the 1Gig speed coming in. Previous speed test results now range between 200-300 up and down when they should be somewhere between 500-800 on a fiber network. Do you have any suggestions that might help???

Most wifi devices will only have two antenna, which greatly affects speeds you're going to see at the consumer level. No one ever tells you this.

I have the original Wii system that only works on a 2.4 GHz signal. Am I able to change make any setting adjustments so the router will use its 2.4? For instance, my current modern Spectrum 6 router does not allow for any changes and the 5 GHz takes over and my Wii never can be played unless I use an Ethernet cord.

You should be able to disable the 5ghz signal in the app so that your 2.4ghz devices can connect.

Can you assign a device to a specific router in the house? Example: I have two eero in my home one is in my office and the other in the living room area. Somehow my computer in my office is always connected to the router in the living room area. Unless I turn off my Wi-Fi and turn it back on, it will then connect to the one in the office. It’s a bit frustrating

Great vid! I also checked out Eero routers. I settled on NETGEAR - AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 Router (Model: RAX10-100NAS) and it's awesome. The coverage is only 1500 sq ft which had zero affect on performance at my place. So, I saved $$ and have a reliable, configurable router. If you have a bigger place than mine, then maybe you can also afford the Eero and money is no object, lol. We also just got fiber optic and so we needed something high-speed capable -- this is it! Compare all features to Eero and others before you buy.

Does this have ethernet backhaul? I can connect 2 of the device via ethernet, house has some wiring just not enough. Also do the extenders have 2 ethernet pots or only router thanks.

Yes the EEro pro 6 supports wired backhaul, and the nodes are identical internally {two ethernet ports}. It auto negotiates which one is the gateway. You can use an ethernet port as a wired connection even if you dont have a wired backhaul between the nodes

I am using the router that my internet provider gave me. (Spectrum) The Wi-Fi in that room is about 350 down and 22 up. That is plenty for me. The rest of the house is a mess. I have a cheap extender that is hit or miss. Should I keep my router and get an expensive extender. Would that work together? If I get an euro pro 6 router could I just plug it in or would I have to contact Specctrum and tell them? Thanks for any info.

Personally I'd put in a mesh wifi system if you're having issues covering your whole home reliably with wifi. You'd need to contact spectrum and ask them to turn off the wifi on their modem/router so it doesn't interfere with the wifi signal from the router you purchase. Hope that helps! - Josh

Likely switching the Pro 6 today from the AmpliFi Alien due to that router has stopped broadcasting wifi multiple times now in the first 2 weeks of owning it. The Eero subscription is the only thing that gives me pause. It doesn't seem bad, but some of the functionality included seems pretty basic like usage history and parental controls which should be part of their app for free IMO.

You mentioned that you have have wirelessly connected a garage across the street from your home with the use of the eero Pro 6. We have a half acre of land with two houses on opposite corners of the lot, which I guess would mean that the houses could be up to 200 feet apart (assuming my math is correct). I should add that both of the houses are constructed of concrete block, but both are relatively small. We are looking at options to connect the internet between the two houses, wirelessly. We are not heavy internet users, but rather would like to be able to connect the two homes, so as not to have to purchase an extra internet connections. I would appreciate any assistance that you can provide

I’d try a Mesh system, but place the Wi-Fi point in a window that overlooks the house 200 feet away and see if that works. If not, you can always return the system and go for something like the Netgear Orbi that’ll likely have better range (but it’s def more expensive, so you are paying for top of the line range). Eero also makes Wi-Fi repeaters as well which might be worth looking into if the signal is too weak to be useable for the second home. Hope that helps!

Start with the eero regular and see if it meets your needs. If you still have issues you can always return it and upgrade to the wifi 6 one.

The Nest Wifi isn't a huge upgrade over the Google Wifi. If you're looking to upgrade id reccomend either going with a Wifi 6 system (you'll still benefit from better network handling with a lot of devices on the network simultaneously) or wait for Google to release a Wifi 6 system. - Josh

I have Comcast 100mbs service at the moment with a 3 point Google mesh system with no problems. Frontier is coming to install fiber service 500mbs in a few days. As a bonus they are giving me a Eero pro 6 router with no extensions. After watching this video, I think I will stick with my Google mesh system and the Eero will stay in the cardboard box:)

You are a clever fox. Yes. This eero sucks. I also got the 500 mbs from Frontier. But as soon as you go wireless it slows you down. My way older Netgear router gives me 300 mbs and it’s 8 years old.

I have 3 in a house less than 3000 sq ft, the test for the internet coming in shows 980 Mbps, but when testing devices on the network, I only get 150 Mbps. Why?

My guess is the WiFi points don’t have a good enough connection to the main router. Typically it’s best if they’re in line of sight to the router plugged into your modem if possible. Other cause could be too much congestion on the network, but if you’re not in an apartment building and in a single family home, I wouldn’t think that is the issue. If my suggestion doesn’t help I’d reach out to the Eero team for suggestions. And see if you can return it if you still can’t get speeds close to what you’re supposed to be getting. - Josh

This is a extension for your current Fibre internet connection. So yes you still need a main internet provider.

Hi, Very good video. I'm looking for a wifi 6 setup. I currently have a Netgear Nighthawk X8. Now most of our devices are becoming wif6/ iPhone, new MBP ect... Our house is about 3800FT including the basement. I was thinking of getting this system. Our cable company offers these Eero pro 6 setups as part of the cable package for 9.99 a month. You get 2 EEros pro 6's. I have gig service as well here. The X8 has worked well, but I think I can get close to the gig I pay for using this new system. I was also looking at getting a regular Wifi6 router, but I realize my signal is not that great downstairs. The router is in the top floor attic room. What do you think? I did subscribe too.

If you have a router the eero pro 6 just replaces that router. But if what you have is a modem/router combo device (like one from an internet service provider) you’ll need to connect the eero to that.

The only thing I don't like is the difficulty with getting the Ethernet port on it to actually work. It isn't quite as easy as a traditional router - if I just plug in an Ethernet cable it doesn't just "work"

There is only One (1) Router in a mesh system. The other network devices (like the Extender and Beacon) are Access Points. Even in the 3-Pack “3 Router” package on the Eero website only one device per home acts as the router. The others are just wired access points which will be must faster and reliable than wireless mesh.
