Go ahead and put a basket up there. You can put on some rotopax gas cans, awning, kayaks, cargo holder, and supplies boxes. Very useful

You could have installed the u-bar upside down to make screwing the screws in go from the top

I would take it back apart and fill the tubes with expanding foam if I were you. If you don’t; when it rains it will rust on the inside of the metal frame and the rust water will leak all over the roof. Head my warning

Hey I have a question, I have an ‘06 mercury mountaineer with the rails up top similar to yours. Do I need a rack like that one to install a rooftop pop up tent or will my rails support the tent platform? Thanks!!

I would think you would need something similar to this. I’m thinking the rails you currently have will have too much space between them to support the tent platform.
