Chips, right. I forgot you're American. In the Uk chips (and in the English language, I'm not English) are what you call "fries". It made sense as well as oven mitts are designed for hot things and chips/fries are typically hot so I thought that the finger oven mitts would protect your fingers from them so you could eat them with your fingers without getting burnt.
