@@ColinLeung I did get to ride it the day after I wrote this. Your assembly instructions were perfect. Like I think you highlighted, what would I expect for $600? But for an entry-level e-bike, it has everything one would need. As I stated, I'm older, can't drive and have ridden my conventional bike a little too far on occasion and had to rest for a while on my return trip. This solves that issue. Fortunately, the weather cooperated on the day of my maiden voyages but hasn't since. (Short summers here in Michigan) I had considered paying 2 or 3 times the price for a higher-end, mid-drive e-bike but glad that I didn't. I've yet to try serious uphill riding but there really aren't that many hilly areas around me. Not sure how I feel about the half-twist throttle yet but there are inexpensive replacemet options available if it becomes an issue. I don't know what kind of a winter I'm looking at but I already have warm riding gear. So, barring rain and snowy roads, I think I'm going to enjoy riding this at least through next Spring. And should I upgrade, I'll keep this as the practical, functional staple. To wrap up, this is perfect to get used to an e-bike. Thanks again, Colin!

Hey Colin -- thanks for your time to help us make a more informed decision about an eBike purchase. I watched your video review of the Hyper 700C from Wal-Mart and would appreciate your recommendation on this TotGuard T-266 vs the Hyper 700C. Most of my riding will be on flat surfaces here in Florida -- not many hills to deal with here :). Again, thanks so much for your extensive reviews.
@ColinLeung
@ColinLeung 7 ай бұрын
Hello, I would strongly recommend the TotGuard over the Hyper. Almost everything is better including power (350w vs 250w), range (28mi+ vs 20), brakes (disc vs v-brakes), potential higher max speed (25mph vs 20mph), and twist throttle (none on the Hyper). The battery on my wife's Hyper died after storing for months, and replacements are difficult to find, or are expensive. The totguard's battery looks like every other generic battery, but I have yet to confirm. The ebike prices are nearly identical too. I'd only recommend the Hyper if you prefer that frame style. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you.

@@ColinLeung Thank you very much for your reply. It was very helpful and pretty much what I expected based on my cursory reading. As a first time buyer I really hesitate to spend big bucks. There are so many brands that it’s difficult to know which are quality bikes and which are just junk. For a casual rider like me over-spending is a major concern.
@ColinLeung
@ColinLeung 7 ай бұрын
@@genemcloud4114 You're welcome. If you're trying to get your feet wet with ebikes I'd suggest starting off with a cheaper $300-600 ebike that has your speed and range requirements, figure out what you like/dislike (more range, faster motor, better brakes, fatter tires, etc), and possibly upgrade in the future. From my experience they perform similarly to the $1000 to $2000 models without the bells and whistles like hydraulic brakes, hydraulic forks, integrated battery, and brand name markup. Batteries last around 1000 charges, or 2-5 years. You can either purchase a replacement, or ride the bike like a normal bike if the battery ever dies.

@@ColinLeung Thanks again, Colin. I've been watching sooo many KZbin videos on eBikes. I thought I had found a solid Brand that was a tad more expensive than I wanted to pay, but the reviews had been excellent --- until I found one where the guy was stranded. Honestly, I understand all brands will have a bad apple now and then, and that's when good customer service becomes important. I've noted that many buyers have tried to get local bike shops to help them with issues and most simply refuse to work on these "unknown" bikes. Again, I appreciate your time post videos that help us all make more informed purchases.

I just got mine today. It was a week late which sucks since it's $120 for shipping. Put it together in about an hour. Filled up the tires to 30 psi at speedway and went for an 8 mile ride on a bike path. The thing is super fun! Battery came fully charged. Mostly used pedal assist 3 and it got up smaller inclines just fine. Also the quick release front tire is nice so I can toss it in my chevy cruze, fits in the trunk with back seats folded down. Only thing it needs is a better seat and handlebar riser. Totally recommend and definitely recommend watching this video first before you buy. Very informative.

Hello, I've had my top guard ebike since February 2022. I now have approximately 1700 miles on it. However out of the box I found it to be dangerous as far as the breaking ability. I broke it in properly and found that it would only bring me to a slow stop. Could not lock up the brakes which is necessary for emergency stopping. The first thing that I changed on it was the brakes ordering and installing hydraulic line pole brakes both front and back and putting 180 mm discs on to replace the $160 mm. The next thing I did was I replaced the rear derailleur, the seat adding a suspension seatpost. Then I put on high quality flat Bontrager pedals, and a RockShox Judy front suspension Fork. I then Saturday front rack panniers with a rear rack with panniers so that I could go to the grocery store or go bike touring. In the last 1800 miles of riding it almost every day where I live in a very hilly area and I'm talking steep hills in some cases. The rear wheel from the torque has Twisted the spokes where I have broken three spokes over the last 1800 miles. This is just with normal writing no off-road extreme stuff. The way the rear wheel is laced with spokes is very unprofessional. It is not laced correctly and this is why the wheel causes the spokes to break twist etc. I have dealt with Amazon and several occasions and all they wanted to do was return my money. Or give me money off. My upgrade on this will be to install a the thing 500 watt rear hub motor conversion kit. Just this last week I noticed that the LCD display is no longer registering miles or real-time speed. The 48 volt battery is held up very well for as much writing as I do considering the weight of the bicycle with everything on it and my weight at 250 lb. So basically I've rebuilt the bike almost entirely except for the wheels in the frame and the front chainring. Fortunately I have 35 years experience as a bike mechanic, with a lot of patience. Bottom line is if I was to do this over again I would go to a local bike shop and buy any bike from them where I can actually get real time face to face support if there are any issues.

Yep, im pushing 3300 miles on it in about a year of owning it. I have the 500w/27.5 inch model and its served me well. In terms of brakes, you do have to adjust them occasionally so it helps to carry a bike tool kit with allen wrenches to do that when needed, and basic maintenance like chain lube, and whatnot. Only caught 3 actual flats, 2 of which were my fault lol. Overall solid bike for the price ( its around $600 ish nowadays). I'm going to camouflage the bike in the same or similar pattern since I paint a lot and adding a carbon fiber mountain bike seat to it... to match my carbon fiber and titanium left leg I lost in 2018 below the knee. I'm adding some RockBro Pedals with spikes similar to golf spikes to this bike so my amputated leg stays on the pedal on the left side like I do my mountain bikes... and will see if I have to use my other left leg prosthetic or not that is carbon fiber and stainless steel with a RAMPRO ankle on it that swivels like a real foot. I mainly used that leg for motorcycles and scuba diving and such stuff but also good for rowing boats for the ankle swivel. Any way this bike will be useful for my hunting trips... and more... with the pannier bag I can carry my bull-pup semi automatic rifle or my archery gear into the local wilderness here. Id go for it. I have over 3000 miles on it and tis still running fine. Tbh probably the only thing youll have to keep an eye on are the brakes. Just carry a bike tool kit/allen wrench with you and adjust them when needed and youll be fine. I changed out my first set of brake pads after 1500 miles and man it made a world of difference lol. Everything else works as expected. The bike is dope and honestly helped me convince a ton of people to get into ebikes since this bike looks "good" imo, especially when you add rmirrors, lights, phone mount, etc to it. I have the 27.5 model and i dont regret it one bit. I will say though, after a year of riding it, im considering buying a 2nd ebike, one that can go to about 30 or so mph for abit more speed, and then use this bike as a backup bike to ride whenever the weather is less than ideal. I honestly love this bike to much to sell it now.

Really like this E-Bike and added a rack to the back and Pannier Bags and does very well for me.... also ordered fenders for it which will arrive today and put bigger pedals on it with the "golf cleats" so feet don't slide off since I'm missing my left leg... wonderful machine in my opinion. I have rode it in rain but not heavy rain so fenders are necessary but I try to avoid rain with all the electrical stuff on it but also have covers for the bike in Pannier or saddle bags if a heavy down pour shows up while riding I can just cover the bike and wait it out if short duration for protection of the electrical aspect angle of this machine. I just got mine put together last night. Super solid and high quality construction. This little engine will take off!! Since I’m 6’3 I added on a gooseneck extension and it’s perfect now! I haven’t been on a bike in over 20 years so it’s been really exciting to get back to riding! I can’t wait to get readapted to riding again and put some milage on this thing! Two notes: I could only get about 32 psi of tire pressure in my tires and they are firm! Use your fingers to press into the tire. If they are firm, stop there. Also, I noticed the handlebar reflector is super loose. In the packaging materials you’ll get some thin black foam. Cut a small thin strip of it and feed it into the underside of the reflector bracket. Once you tighten the screw it’ll make a solid tight connection with the bar. Go buy this bike you’ll love it!!

You can add a front wheel DD gearless motor on these gear motors. I bought a Mukkpet 350watt Gear motor with 48v 10-4ah . Gear motors car ride long distance of over 10 miles non stop but at minimum speed of 20mph. Adding a DD gearless like a 2000watt can speed up bike to 36 to 40mph for long distance without needing bike to cool down as most DD gearless motors due. With th is s Dual set up, makes the e bike into a 3000$ value e bike due to added performance.

@@ColinLeungThere is an adapter to use 2 batteries as 1. Believe the controller as well , but no , I'm using 2 motors, 2 batteries, separate controllers. Just added the throttle bar on left side of the DIY or the factory made. Bike is very light of small frame 26inch MTB, 79.lbs. Using the gear motor on cruise control, I turn on the 2000watt and give a light twist to move along. Both batteries end up having more hold due to both motors . The main gear batteries saves the most. Both motors use less torque on start up and when gear ⚙️ on cruise and I use the Boost off the Gearless, main batteries wattage on cruise control is ,ZERO and the Gearless motor never has any resistance due to starting off the speed of the Gear ⚙️. I put thought months ahead of choosing right method of watching other Dual builds. This way of the Gear ⚙️ makes the Gearless to ride long distance without having to cutt out to cool down for a few minutes ( they only can go so far high speed for 3 to 4 miles before cutt off mode) . Very Practical and for sure, this best and likely the standard of the Dual makes as most overkill defeating the purpose of the cons.

This bike is garbage , don't buy it! Trust me , after three months the battery lasts maybe 4-7 miles and doesn't have any speed, drops to 12 mules an hour. We've had several battery changes but it just happens again. I can't make it to work, 7 miles away before the battery dies. It may be good for city riding but countrybwith lack of places to change and the fact there are hills , ot doesn't last. Anything less then 39 miles is very low, and maybe short citybrides on flat ground, it's should be okay, b7t it still get shorts, brake wear out every month, and top speed is 19.5 , that's full power with pedaling hard. It's not a good bike for the money.

What are they guarding you from? Going 20 mph? Being Tot-ally able to comfortably ride as a 6’1”male?

Have you ever ridden a really great ebike or just all this low-end crap with an affiliate link? Follow-up question: How many Alts do you use to add moronic replies?

@@megabhi This is a basic e-bike. There's nothing wrong with it. But there's nothing special about it, it will do the job for you if you are just riding on the road. There are much better e-bikes out there for a 1000 maybe 2000, but this is a good basic bike.
