Thanks for the review! Can you show the update the firmware with cadence sensor swap update where you can change the mode from cadence or torque?

Thanks for the question. Unfortunately I sold the ebike before the change was made via firmware, so I'm not able to record that procedure.

I'm perplexed as to why no one mentions that the discover 2 is so much slower than discover 1 with acceleration. I even called the company today to confirm it is different than discover 1, and that there's no way around it. That's the only thing keeping me from buying it right now.

Been looking at e-bikes and this one is on my short list; this is the first time I think that I have someone go through the electronics and app that thoroughly; Not sure what other e-bike on the market would be as good or offers as much at this price point.

Thanks. I liked the ebike when I rode it. I did have an issue with the display needing to be replaced because the unit didn't power on after sitting for 2months, but Velotric was very responsive.

Great review!! How is the lag on the torque sensor and throttle. One reviewer stated that its a few seconds until torque or the throttle kicks in after being pressed or pedaled.
@ColinLeung4 ай бұрын
The throttle engaged within a second. The torque sensor really depended on how fast you pedaled, and could vary from a fraction of a second to a few seconds.
@anthonyg84354 ай бұрын
I just test drove one the other day and I really like it! The throttle was quite laggy though but the torque sensor was spot on. I did reach out to the company and asked if it would be possible to adjust the throttle sensitivity in a future firmware update and they seemed open to the idea. Other bikes have the ability to adjust throttle sensitivity which I think would be beneficial.

I noticed how quick your D2 is. All of the other reviews I have seen show the D2 taking 11 seconds to get to 20 mph. How much do you weigh lol. Cause that bike is quick!!

I purchased a Discover 2 from my local bike shop. My wife was gifted a Trek electric bike by the surgeons when she retired from the same shop. We have purchased at least 15 bikes over the past 25 years for our family. The owner recommended not to mount a basket in the front.

Nice review, thanks. One thing, having not ridden one yet, I don’t know why you would like a pedal sensor over a torque sensor. You say because it makes you pedal hard at higher speeds. My question is, isn’t that what the throttle’s for? Thanks again.
@ColinLeung8 ай бұрын
Thanks. Correct, a torque sensor makes you pedal harder at higher speeds. I personally prefer a cadence sensor because I'm lazy, and want to leisurely pedal to achieve the top speed. While I can hold the throttle down it gets tiring constantly twisting a throttle or pushing a lever down. Sometimes I ride with one or no hands on the handlebars, and just pedal. I hope this clarifies what I meant.
@skeller618 ай бұрын
@@ColinLeung It does, yes. I’m picking up my first e-bike soon (should be at bike shop tomorrow) and I think it has the answer. While it has a torque sensor, it also has a cruise control. I’m 63, and want to get a little exercise, as well, so it all makes sense. That’s why there’s more than one type of bike! Thanks for your videos!

I lke this bike! In red of course! I have a Radcity 5 Plus now and I like it too, but this velotric is a step forward for sure. About the Find My feature-I installed an airtag hidden in my bike but I have to replace the battery once a year. On this velotric 2 is there an airtag built in? can it be removed by thieves? Do I need to replace the battery? Just curious. My current bike is 65lbs and I see that the velotric is also 65lbs or so. Mine feels heavy and pedaling without motor assistance is not easy, but doable. Also I changed mine to class 3 but I only get as fast as 32km hr-here in Canada the Rad bike has a 500watts motor. I'm fine with 32km (or bit more if I pedal hard!)-the bike does feel a bit shaky at higher speeds. I hope this velotric is more sturdy. I'm in Canada and Velotric doesn't ship here so I may have to drive to Buffalo NY and get one...soon...Thanks for the video
@ColinLeung9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I think there's a chip installed in the controller that has gps/find my features built in that is wired to the battery, so you don't need to change an airtag battery.

I was almost decided on Discover 2. However, on another review, there was an issue when attaching the front basket assembly. Because of the tangled mess of the brake cables and not being able to thread them through the basket, after attaching the basket, it stretched the brake cables too far which messed with the braking when making turns. Are you aware of this? THIS issue is preventing me from buying this bike, as I need a front basket. Any feedback wud be appreciated.
@ColinLeung7 ай бұрын
Hello Daniel, I have not tested the front basket on the Discover 2, so I cannot say with certainty that it will work without modification. Looking at the cabling, mounting points and basket, it would appear that the cable management spiral ties can be loosened, and front brake line routed on the side of the basket and rear brake line pushed behind the basket. If there are still issues turning then you can disconnect the brake lines from the calipers, and reroute the brake lines through the basket. This will require rebleeding the brake lines since it's hydraulic. I hope this helps
@danielbecker98367 ай бұрын
@@ColinLeung Yes it does and wud end up being more work than I wud want to do on my own. I only want a professional bike tech working on my hydraulic brakes. Self assembly with a basket isn't going to work for me. THANKS for the feedbsck.

Amazing review.....unfortunately Velotric is best at hiding negative reviews/customer experiences from the past couple years on their bikes. The Discover 2 is having issues with failing controllers. After reading about this in Velotric groups I figured it was just a rare occurrence for a new complicated system. I went to test ride ebikes and the owner said they had a Discover 2 in the back, it couldn't be out on the floor due to "issues" ... I asked if it was a controller issue and they said "YEP" I guess it's NOT so rare of an occurrence.
@DM-fp8uw8 ай бұрын
I have never seen an e-bike review where the reviewer talks about customer service. Anyone who did probably would not get any bikes to review. There is a huge need for a well funded channel that can buy their own bikes and do long term tests .
@ColinLeung8 ай бұрын
Thank you. That's unfortunate, and I have not ridden it long enough to experience the controller issue. Hopefully it's something Velotric can repair with a firmware update, or send new controllers if they fail.
@ColinLeung8 ай бұрын
@@DM-fp8uw Yes, unfortunately ebikes are quite expensive, and you would need a lot of money or high viewership to bring enough monetization to cover the costs of the ebikes. Most sponsors that offer ebikes in exchange for reviews do not want negative comments said about their product as it would steer away sales.
