Tube guy here. Those are HV rectifier tubes as found in tube CRT stuff (TVs, scopes, radar, exc) to power the CRT, pretty cheap if you know where to look. They are literally just diodes, they could never amplify even if the output caps at the top were hooked up, which they are not. Even if they wanted to use them as diodes for whatever reason they'd need several thousand volts for those type of tubes to work. BUSTED on every level.

Those arent vacuum tubes. Those are bile collectors. They remove the bile from the audio track so that you do not get sick while listening to music. You will eventually have to swap them out new ones , depending on your type of music. Take out the old ones through the back door , and install the new ones through the front door.

They should light up somewhat yes, but they don't have to get that warm. You can run tubes severely undervolted (the "starving" principle) so they still function but don't warm up that much. That being said, there are Chinese audio products that feature tubes that are just there for looks, but perform no function in the sound path.

There are some new home audio integrated amps that use pre-amp tubes that actually sound pretty good. But it's silly to make a car amp with tubes. It was a silly idea before we found out they were fake; even sillier that it turns out they made these fake tubes with a lighting effect, then completely covered it up. This amp design was probably inspired by a fever dream, so maybe the translation isn't as off as we thought.

Very select market for interest in just that, tho, I'm afraid... Going to stick with my Orion XTR750.4 for my highs and mids. Props for going outside the norm though.

There is actually a very good reason why the description makes no sense. There is a huge language barrier between where it's manufactured, boxed up and had the manual put together, and places that speak English. Companies that have the money hire a translator obviously whoever this is didn't bother. Ever notice some of the names of the Chinese restaurants? They are very odd As It Gets Lost in the translation, like Happy Chicken, Sunny Day food. That's the answer. If it was Pyramid they would take a picture of tubes and Scotch tape it to the Box, then call it a tube amp.

got a good look at the surrounding circuit and the pcb.. those valves aren't properly in the chain. its gimmick. the metal tip is for higher power applications, and such tubes make notoriously poor low voltage preamp drivers. they would have been better off just putting some 12a*7's in there if they were actually putting them in circuit. and to be honest, i can't find any single anode top cap 'normal sized' septar (7pin) valves that are suitable for preamp even with high voltage/current applied. most of the dual triodes that tend to be used for preamping audio are all octal (8pin) or miniture tubes (roughly 1/4 of the diameter of the ones in this amp and maybe 1/2 the length). not saying they don't exist, just that i'm not finding any such. another ding; when you have top cap anodes, they need power on the order of 600V+ up to KV. these were probably some sort of radio/broadcast tube in the lower side of power stages. (if they're even real) with the number off that label i could probably tell you exactly what it is, if it actually is a tube and not a dummy, or r-typedaw torg's tube search engine could give you the relevant page for it.

There was a trend for a while in semipro audio gear to put starved plate tubes in the middle and call it a tube mic pre or a tube compressor. A lot of people fell for it. Thinking the tube compressor they bought from Behringer would get them that smooth LA2 tone. It didn't but psychoacoustics are tricky. You can often trick yourself into liking stuff you hear if you really want to. I have a lot of tube and hybrid tube stuff myself. If it doesn't present a decent voltage, no thanks. If the tubes are surrounded by TL074 op amps they aren't running at a significant voltage! Bonus points if the output is transformer balanced.

You must have had some sort of an HV power supply to make the plate voltage from the +13.8VDC. My tube amp had a Triad toroidal transformer with a pair of switch transistors to make the DC plate voltage. My amp used four 6BQ5's in class AB1 push pull.

The very moment that you opened up the case, I knew those were not real tubes. It would have been interesting to see if the tube sockets actually connected to any circuity and under the microscope, look inside the tubes to see what's there. What's possible is that they may have some transistors or something inside to fake them as being usable tubes.
@rich1051414
@rich1051414 11 ай бұрын
On fake tube amps, usually the signal is passed through the heater. Which does nothing. But that would mean the tubes never heat up. Which seems to be the case here.
@BlondieSL
@BlondieSL 11 ай бұрын
@@rich1051414 That's interesting too. This is why I'd be curious to see if there are any solid state components that they just mounted inside the tube so that they could claim it's tube operated. hmmmmm.... components that would normally be on the PCB. Honestly, it's just sickening how companies lie and put out fake garbage like that and make false claims.

So... they went to all this trouble to create this nifty "tube light show" in the amp, and they didn't even put a plexi window on it so they could be seen? Essentially, it seems like their purpose wasn't to create something that a teenager would think would look cool in their Mom's hand me down Corrolla; it was to dupe the "tubes and vinyl or bust" market?

A true tube amp would be very heavy. Audio output tubes operate at very high voltages and that high voltage must be lowered so it can operate a speaker, and the way this is done is through transformers and they are very heavy. A misconception about transformers is that weight is from the copper, not true the majority of the weight is from the iron in them. Another gem from Big D. Gotta love it.

Actually when I competed back in the early 2000's I used Planet Audio when it was built by ZED Audio. I had 2 BIG BANG mono amps strapped and 1 HVT754 on my front stage. It had real tubes and sounded good, but it took a few seconds to play waiting on the tubes to preheat. It had 4 tubes in the preamp section and normal class A/B output section. It also had a small window to see the tubers glow through. It was about the size of my JP234, maybe a little thicker due to the tubes but weighed far less than the Big Bang monoblocks. I still have my USamps VLX800 and that is another one I wish I had kept. 75x4@4ohms and 100x4@2 ohms. Perfect for a front stage in a S10 pickup with a blowthru in the back, 4 -12" BigBang subs in a 4th order.

@@hack0well I bet that system got down. I did a lot of repair on the later planet audio amps, after the zed built amps of course. It's nice to talk to people who know what their talking about wich you obviously do. I thought about trying to start a channel like BIG D has but I'm not very good at that side of things, I would probably sound like a jack ass. I look forward to conversing with you in the near future. Ling live the 90s.

Tubes look like they’re socketed. Can you pull them and see if it still passes audio? Also it looks like there is no support for the tubes on that daughterboard? Vibration from in-vehicle use is going to cause problems over time.

I was curious about that, too, but his heat image tells the tale. They stay cold which means they aren't even getting power, let alone are part of the audio chain.

You don't want to use the factory supplied bile. You have to drain and replace it with extra virgin tropical bat bile. For best results the closer to the equator, the better. It's expensive, and pretty bad for the bats, but worth it for the extra bile quality in the highs.

Those vacuum tubes look like TV EHT rectifier diodes. So by their very nature they can't amplify anything. They are a diode, for goodness sake! And what's more, the top cap of the tube is the anode connection, except that doesn't appear to be connected to anything at all. Unbelievable.
