A lot of people missed this but when Mark and Amber are texting back and forth and she's telling him "do not be to having dinner with my mom", Mark is hearing this in a flirty tone, like it's romantic banter. Only for him to show up late and Amber is *pissed off* . And this happened a few times in season 1, Mark was incapable of realizing that he was getting on her nerves.

No he didn't. He been realizing he was messing up and knew he was hurting her with the lies and being late. We actively see Mark's hairs going gray because he stresses out about it. Also, you are referring to the time he got his phone knocked out of his hand while trying to communicate with her? Look, I agree at the end of the day he was a bad boyfriend for letting it escalate for as long as it did, but he wasn't some uncaring and clueless huck people trying to make him out of. That's not right. If anyone deserves this dressing down, it's Ben Tennyson and what he did to Julie.

​@@Chillixion He *DID* know he was getting on her nerves and he knew exactly what was wrong, which was why he kept trying to make it up for her. He's not emotionally inept. That's why he was always stressing out. I'm not saying he wasn't in the wrong for how the relationship ended up, but I don't understand why we're demonizing the teenage boy over it. I don't agree with him lying to her nor am I downplaying what actually happened, but he didn't lie out of malicious intent. He didn't cheat on her steal from her, and he wasn't being some uncaring douche who never took account of her feelings. He's not Ben Tennyson or Scott Pilgrim levels of bad.

imho amber was right, even though i hate the 'gotcha' moment as a concept (when she said she knew), but Mark had plenty of opportunities to be honest with her, don't think she could have done it another way effectively enough to get through to him

She could have flat out told him she knew he was a superhero. I'm sorry, but it takes two to keep a relationship healthy. It would have definitely knocked off a lot of tension that was there for both of them and would have made her much less accountable for the relationship turning sour like it did. It's alright that she wanted to break up with him, whether she knew that secret or not, and she has every right to feel how she feels about it. The problem is that she knew Mark's secret and responsibilities were what was affecting the relationship, refused to speak up, and at then decided to scold him about it when it hit the fan one too many times. I also disagree heavily with the narrative that Mark was an inconsiderate and emotionally inept person when we have seen him constantly stressing out and recognizing how wrong he was throughout the story. He's not Ben Tennyson or is he Scott Pilgrim.

​@@yusifudo46 >she could've told him. yes, she could've have, and so miss an opportunity to find out what kind of a person her partner is, to see if he will step up. it would also rob Mark of the personal growth he's had thanks to this (lying has consequences whatever the intention/shouldn't make promises he doesn't know if he can keep). in general, i do think things like 'friendship/relationship tests' are, at best, unnecessary, and at their worst, harmful and potential cause to break relations off. the test is done in the first place because of a lack of trust, which- why is that not being communicated directly to the person instead of 'testing' them? however, this is not exactly the case here, because Amber trusts Mark, it's his lack of trust that keeps pushing her to respond in reactive ways. Mark is not 'emotionally inept', but it's precisely when "it hit the fan too many times" is when he should've re-assesed his approach and either 1) disclosed his identity so they can work through the obstacles together 2) broken up with her because he realises he doesn't fully trust her with that info.

What you are saying doesn't apply to being a superhero or having a career field that requires some level of secrecy, like government related works, which Mark was under. It's not the same as our everyday lives. As for lying, I agree, but he wasn't cheating, stealing, or had any type of malicious intent behind it. He was *TRAINED* to do that. She *SHOULD* have told him as Mark has as much of an issue and more to lose if he told her, because for example, Miles Morales told his gf he was Spider Man and she ended up being a Hydra Agent whose parents kidnapped and tortured his family. He has to know if he could trust her as well. I'm not saying what Mark did was even remotely okay. There's a lot he did wrong, but he has just as much reason not to just tell her he's a hero, like any other hero would. I also don't like how people here like to talk about Mark like he's some inconsiderate douchebag who can care less about people's feelings outside his own or just a clueless huck when he's constantly worried, stressed out, and contemplating the relationship going downhill and wanted to do whatever he thought was appropriate to improve it (I'll say this: even his biggest blunder missions are because he either tried to rush or he didn't get enough Intel on what to do, Cecil is infamous for that) or how people like to talk down about him like any of them would have done so much better in his shoes. It's his *first* love. Chill out people. Sorry but I greatly disagree with you. Clearly we know Mark was doing all of that was because he was stressed out when he was starting out superheroing and was told to not reveal his identity, which has negative consequences. He wasn't good at balancing it yet. I'll say it again, this is not *BEN* *10.* He deserves one. Also, Mark's reason for how he was acting was because he knew he had to keep his identity secret. It's not malicious neglect or him undermining the relationship to be a creep. However, if she told him she knew about him being Invincible (or at least knew he was a hero) before the big breakup scene and Mark was acting like this afterward and still continued on to do the things he was doing, then Amber is not at all responsible as she did literally everything on her accord to keep the relationship healthy and again, if she wanted to leave him, she could and it would be fine. All in all, both of them were in the wrong, and both are equal at the problem. I also disagree with that "it would also rob Mark of the personal growth he's had" argument. She could have figured out the kind of person Mark was by telling him and then seeing his actions afterwards. Telling him you know his secret is not at all the same as letting him off the hook. That assessment would be valid if you truly believed Mark was a dirt bag from the beginning, but he was already a pretty good person from the get go. Mark already gave that up when he finally decided to tell Amber he was a hero and the guy who saved her everyone at the college meet, and it was not to keep her . I don't know where y'all are getting that stretch from, and I don't want to know because that's hyperbole at best. Most people who are mad at Amber, it was not because she broke with him. Most of those people who say that I promise did not watch the show. It's because of what she said *EXACTLY* that both shows how hypocritical she can be as withholding important information can be just as consequential as falsifying truth and how that scene contradicts her "in your face/tell it as it is" personality that she's built up for the past 1st Season. It's just bad writing, and being over critical about Mark just made it worse. It's just really, *REALLY* awful writing.

I think it would've been better received if Amber knowing Mark's secret identity was revealed to the audience earlier, maybe an episode or two back. The way it's played out feels kind of flat or underwhelming imo, whereas it would help build empathy for the character if we know what's going on in her head when Mark lies

I do think there is a point in the series for that relationship that’s pretty short lasting in the grand scheme of things to be from the perspective of Mark and therefore limit what we know about Amber unless she’s speaking about it to another major character (mostly Eve6
