I shot mag-striped film in the late 1970s always hoping to eventually put sound on it, but I never did... however, I recently discovered a mag-striped roll from 1982 that I shot in a CP-16 with live sound recorded in-camera - that was a treat!

You've got to give "keep your eyes on her hands" the dedicated transfer and upload it so richly deserves, that's actually a really good version of the song! Good vocal, nice cabaret backing and great hula dancing verging on the burlesque. Lush colours too, obviously not kodak film stock... By the way these projectors were known as the RCA Hollywood here in the UK, mine was optical only.

Wonderful projector, that RCA 400. The mag/optical/record option are great features. My Filmosound does fine with old home black and white movies and Three Stooges, but looks like I’ll have to get a couple of those Scopitones … for the Technicolor feature of course.

Yea, the Scopitones are real cool to view. And the acting on alot of them are no less cheesy than the old Soundies from the 40s. Just remember like I said in my video, the Scopitones only have mag soundtracks. No optical sound.

I don't know if you know this but there was also a British built RCA range. I once had one and that was also a mag/optical unit' I think there were three machines available. Optical, Mag optical and mag /optical with mag record. Mine ran at 240v ac and had a I kilowatt lamp and used to get quite hot!

With a 16mm magazine camera like the Cine-Kodak Royal, you can shoot a complete 16mm film for under $150!

They've got good colour which is unusual for those scopitones. I have read somewhere that the prints were not standard and only intended for the jukeboxes, and not conventional projectors. You're lucky that the RCA has space to ceate and extra long loop as I could not do it on my (mag capable) B&Hs and Eiki/Elfs.

The seller that I bought these scopitones from said in the ebay ad that they were technicolor, and they survived in such good color.

This was the projector at our school's open air theater showing movies every Saturday. Have you compared ita contrast and black levels with digital projectors?
